Most people have very little idea of the huge and dangerous impacts that #ADHD can have on women and girls.
A thread 1/9
#ADHDWomen #IWD2023 #InternationalWomensDay2023 #InternationalWomensDay #WomensDay #WomensDay2023 Image
It is now clear from diagnoses in later life that #ADHD occurs just as often in women and girls as it does in men and boys.
But women and girls are diagnosed FAR less often, and frequently misdiagnosed 2/9 Image
Women with ADHD are more likely to present outwardly with inattentive traits, because hyperactive/impulsive traits are more likely to be masked and 'internalised'. 3/9 Image

Pleased to see the Minister confirm #HRT PPC will include ALL products, and fellow #MenopauseWarrior @leicesterliz question what is being done to tackle #HRTshortages

I wouldn't be celebrating having 'only' 5 #HRT products short when those are some of the most popular...
Interesting to see the Minister inform women going through #Menopause that Utrogestan is back in stock. It was only a few weeks ago she was telling followers it wasn't even out-of-stock! #MenopauseWarriors, how does that sound to you on the ground? Xx @menomandate @HarleyStEmp

Use of Hormone Replacement Therapy (#HRT) and Risk of #Dementia
1. HRT is prescribed in women after #Menopause (natural or surgical). A recent study looked at the risk of dementia in women taking HRT (estrogen, progesterone or combination)
#MedTwitter #neurotwitter #Alzheimers
2. The risk of dementia was 35% higher in women taking HRT as compared to those who did not take it.
3. The risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD) was 20% higher and Vascular dementia (VaD) was 79% higher in the HRT group.
5. There was a trend toward an increased risk of dementia with a higher cumulative dose of HRT prescription (but not the duration of HRT).
6. Possible mechanism- increased risk of brain strokes and silent micro-infarcts with HRT

My #autistic #menopause with and without hormone treatment.
It’s 12 days since my GP told me I had to stop using hormone treatment patches for the next four weeks.
I was horrified.
It’s difficult to describe just how bad things were before I started using HRT patches.
1/
I tried bargaining for a different approach, or a notice period to prepare myself, but it was futile.
My GP emphasised that it was “only for four weeks”.
I reminded her how bad things had been before I started using the patches.
It was non-negotiable so we agreed to disagree.
2/
The fact that I’d started using #HRT was entirely due to serendipity.
Last year I had lots of bothersome physical and cognitive symptoms I hadn’t even associated with #menopause.
I assumed that being post-menopausal, I’d have to accept this as my new normal.
How wrong I was!

Today, we’re taking a look at the effects of artificial testosterone on the female body. #Testosterone is prescribed to healthy female children at gender clinics across the US. Its side effects include #depression, type 2 diabetes, blood clots, and high cholesterol. (1/8)
A recent scientific study found that artificial testosterone also increases females’ risk of heart attack. Src: archive.is/xArCg #healthcare (2/8)
Artificial testosterone and artificial estrogen both increase the risk of metabolic syndrome (MetS) when used for “#transition.” That means higher risks for heart attack, stroke, and diabetes. Src: archive.is/CTq8q #health (3/8)

THREAD: Let’s talk about the HOW. How do “trans kids” #transition from healthy children to cash cows for Big Med? Let’s break down the process. (1/13)
The first step is the “affirmative model” of #therapy. When a child claims to be or wants to be the opposite sex, well-meaning parents may seek answers from a therapist. An “affirmative” therapist automatically labels the child "trans." (2/13)
It’s important to note that “affirmative” therapists don’t examine children’s #mentalhealth or question their ideas before making a decision. Instead, they “rubber-stamp” children’s psych evals. Src: (3/13)

We need to talk about #genderdysphoria. First: what is it? Let’s ask @APAPsychiatric: archive.is/AT7Np #gendercritical #womenwontwheesht (1/9)
@APAPsychiatric It’s true that some kids experience distress or confusion over biological sex. But studies show that those feelings are likely to resolve on their own during puberty, without any interference. No diagnosis or medicalization needed. #mentalhealth (2/9)
@APAPsychiatric Up to 98% of kids who experience distress over #biosex desist naturally, depending on the study. Find the most recent study, in which 88% of subjects desisted, here: archive.is/sQi1M #healthcare #science (3/9)

Women considering hormone replacement therapy (#HRT) can be reassured about the risk of #BreastCancer. New research suggests that HRT is generally linked to only small increased risks. Different types of HRT were linked to different risks of breast cancer.
The researchers looked at data from 99,000 women with #BreastCancer aged between 50 and 79. Each was matched to five other women who did not have breast cancer. This was so researchers could look at the association between taking HRT and having a diagnosis of breast cancer.
The research team found that there was no increase in the risk of breast cancer for HRT taken for less than a year. Risks increased with the duration of HRT treatment and there were also different risks depending on a woman’s age and the type of progestogen taken.

17 months ago I had a total hysterectomy + bilateral ovary removal for severe PMDD - I honestly believe that surgery saved my life, yet I definitely wasn't ready for the mental health rollercoaster of surgical menopause + HRT that followed (thread)
17 months on + finally my hormones are in range, following surgery I thought my mental health battle was over, I am so much better, I don't self harm or need to be in hospital for my safety anymore. I am living independently, I can drive + hold down a job (2/?)
Yet I am still awaiting for the day I feel "better". There are many days I feel broken + whilst I have no regrets about my surgery, I feel it changed me in ways I could have never expected. I often feel zapped of energy (3/?)

CN: #Transfeindlichkeit #Sterilisation

@LinziMillett @MenopauseLondon @Dianedanz @mymenopausedr Almost all women in the #perimenopausal transition (40-60) will experience some element of joint pains/muscle aches, first in a cyclical basis & worst just before & during menstruation. This is due to ⬇️Estradiol (E2) levels -remember E2 softens cartilage (as in pregnancy) and ➡️
@LinziMillett @MenopauseLondon @Dianedanz @mymenopausedr ...its sudden withdrawal causes all cartilage-containing structures to stiffen up. This is the reason why ACL rupture is ~5 x commoner in women than men & mostly occurs during day 1&2 of menstruation. Also reason for timing of peak of fatal & near-fatal asthma in women. Also ➡️
@LinziMillett @MenopauseLondon @Dianedanz @mymenopausedr ...all women in the Seattle Midlife Women’s study had joint pain as part of their physical symptom clusters - see: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20628322
So the solution is simply to stabilise E2 throughout the cycle by taking an adequate dose transdermal patch or gel -this is why joint pain ➡️
