Little joys of life!
Soon after the the Supreme Court gave its stay on the #HaldwaniEviction pushed by the UK HC, I have been getting lots of msgs and calls from #haldwani, fellow journalists and people telling me “you've done a great, brave and powerful reporting on Haldwani”
This high praise comes as a responsibility to continue giving voice to the Muslims and most marginalised of the country and speaking truth to power.
But this was not possible without the assistance of residents from #Haldwani who helped me track down the history of the issue +
and lead me to relevant people. And all those people who quickly amplified the story and made it impactful. Add to this, credits where due @Shazography_ who very diligently did the camera with me on ground and Hammad Uz Zafar who very patiently edited the video at latest+

WHY IS NATIONAL MEDIA NOT COVERING THIS.
Close to 4500 families in #Haldwani on the verge of being Homeless in the name of railway encroachment,
Thousands of people including women and children hit the streets to register their peaceful protest against the High court order.
It's time to Speak up for people of Haldwani. Amplifiy their voices. Media is supposed to be the voice of the people, but unfortunately Indian media has become Govt Mouthpiece. Not one Nation Media has reported this protest. #StandWithPeopleOfHaldwani

Thread #Haldwani case:
After extreme rainfall in #Uttarakhand, a bridge failed across Gaula river near Haldwani

Rain wasn't sole cause, it just brought d collapse a bit earlier

Himalayan rivers exit mountains & enter plains with great intensity & it is a critical zone
It is in this critical section is Haldwani where the Gaula river exits the himalayas and enters plains. Rivers bring huge amount of sediments with them to settle as well as they have high intensity flows during monsoon to erode

Visual shows the location of the bridge that failed
Failure of a bridge is nothing new in the region. The previous bridge across the Gaula river (shown with old satellite image below) had collapsed in 2008 after floods
