Thread. About @NotreDame handling of the #COVID19 situation so far. I know it's too early to give a final verdict and challenges lie ahead (football games) but I think the administration has done a phenomenal job (contrary to what I know many faculty believe). And here is why.
The basic premise has always been to give students when possible an in-person experience. And now it seems to be working.

What were the elements to achieve this?
1) Distancing, mask wearing in rooms, basic separation wherever possible between students (less vulnerable) and the more vulnerable faculty and staff. Including giving faculty who have medical pre-conditions the permission to teach online.

1/3 In getting through the initial wave of #COVID19 in 🇨🇦, we showed our ability to persevere and adapt with a collective goal in mind. We made sacrifices and kept at it despite the hardships, so we could reopen at the safest time.
2/3 The aim of cautiously descending the initial peak of #COVID19 in 🇨🇦, was to get the infection rate low while we built up capacity to rapidly #TestandTrace to keep the epidemic in a #SlowBurn scenario as we reopened. #HammerandDance
3/3 That’s still the #COVID19 scenario I am hopeful we can maintain, where local #PublicHealth are able to manage new chains of transmission and not be overwhelmed with too many cases/contacts in an uncontrolled spread scenario. #TestandTrace
