The #flipflop of @JoeBiden on the Hyde Amendment cannot be overstated in terms of ramifications for (presuming) his general election prospects. Politically speaking he put himself in an even worse position than Hillary was in relation to then candidate Trump. Here's why:
Setting aside Trump's reputation on personal morality, as a candidate he argued more forcefully against abortion in that debate against Hillary than maybe any other presidential candidate before him. Hillary didn't moderate at all, even when advised to do so.
At the time, many of us were skeptical (for many reasons) about Trump's commitment to the pro-life cause and his trustworthiness on the (or any) issue. At the time, Hillary's campaign only had to fight campaign rhetoric. Biden's situation is very different now:

Anyone not contextualizing ProLife & #HeartbeatBill within GOP's white nationalism/white base demographics is missing the whole point of these anti-abortion bills. #GOP is aligned with white nationalists & turns a doting, blind eye at white supremacists (see: Charlottesville) 1/
We're seeing the establishment of incipient fascism in this country. Racist, nationalist GOPers fear losing white power structure & white demographic base to support said power structure. Fascism is also spreading in Europe --see Bannon promoting EuroFascism 2/
with its fear of refugees from ME and Africa. There is a nationalist fear of loss of white Euro culture & power base. In America, white nationalist Miller leads the charge of fascism, by literally caging South American brown and black people with their babies & small children. 3/

Franchise Tax Board v Hyatt is the sleeper abortion case you have not heard about. Because, of course, it is not about #abortion.

But the decision - and HOW it is reached - is going to determine how the incoming wave of abortion cases are going to be resolved.

thread:
/1
The FTB case came from a tax dispute. A former resident of California sued the California Franchise Tax Board in a Nevada state court, claiming that it had done him all manner of wrongs in investigating his purported tax liability.
/2
California does not want to be sued in another state’s courts. The current law, decades old, allows such suits.

The case has nothing to do with abortion, but everything to do with how to overturn precedent.

Stand by! We’ll be live-tweeting coverage of the #OHLeg House Health Committee, and the first hearing of HB 68, a bill that would ban all abortions (without exception) after a fetal heartbeat is detected - commonly known as the #HeartbeatBill
Rep. Ron Hood opens up the hearing with sponsor testimony, noting that the Ohio House GOP has repeatedly tried and failed to pass the #HeartbeatBill into law.
Ranking member @Boyd4OH_D9 asks the #HeartbeatBill sponsors why they have prioritized this abortion ban over other family-focused policies - like paid family leave, mental health and postpartum care, domestic violence protections, and early childhood education.
