Clarifying Thread: Why I speak up for #HinduAmericans and #Hinduism.

My friends and colleagues are often surprised by how vocal I am in speaking up on #HinduAmerican and #IndianAmerican issues on @Twitter (only).

They are surprised for a number of reasons.

/1
a. Focus of my professional work is #GlobalHealth, #Innovation, and #HealthTech adoption. Focus of my community work is underserved communities in the Bay Area, which tend to be non-Indian and non-Hindu for the most part.

/2
b. My friends know that I’m fairly understated in my faith, which is more philosophical, less rituals. I am informed by a decision my widowed great-grandma made when she chose an egalitarian, spiritual group that eschewed caste labels. My family still follows that path.

#Alert: In the wake of multiple anti-Hindu hate crimes over the last month alone, we called for unity & solidarity. Response?

Today, instead of standing with Hindus, @IAMCouncil released a @DemsTeaneck resolution demanding that the @FBI do surveillance of #HinduAmerican orgs. Image
The @DemsTeaneck @iamc resolution uses a slur commonly used by #antiSemites, against Hindus. It actually calls Hindus “infilitrators” and paints Hindu advocacy as insidious.

When Hindus meet legislators and advocate on issues, it is not something to condemn. It is being American Image
The @DemsTeaneck resolution also lies about the million emails HAF’s letter campaign sent to colleges over the unethical use of college logos for the Hinduphobic DGH conference. Not a single letter was sent to Audrey Truschke as they were sent to @RutgersU admin.

#Breaking: The @HinduAmerican's complaint against @Penn with US Dept of Education over #DGHconference & discriminatory "field manual" makes headlines.

Underscores landmark nature of HAF's action representing the #HinduAmerican community. @ssnyderinq

“When an...entire religious tradition and its people are painted as dangerous, bigoted, an anathema to democratic ideals, you have no choice but to defend yourself."

Penn professor and student also quoted, opposing conflating of political problems in India with Hinduism." 2/
Truschke is featured, since she's co-author, with @Penn's Prof. Soneji of "field manual" which:

-targets students for having "Hindu-centric ideas"
-peddles Brahmanism slur
-frames ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri Hindus as a voluntary departure.

Maybe👆missed the editorial cut.

Dangerous! A #Hinduphobe named @FriedrichPieter who used to promote terror groups using the pseudonym Pieter Singh has been slandering #HinduAmerican candidates & lawmakers from BOTH parties. 1st it was @TulsiGabbard now @PadmaKuppaMI41 @NirajAntani @tandon4congress @SriPKulkarni https://medium.com/@hinduamerican/why-the-democratic-party-i
The diagram above was created by @HinduAmerican, & if true should be a real cause for concern. I had seen my friends in the Jewish community & members of the small Armenian minority face this kind of attack. Now the American Hindu community is facing this kind of vilification.
Those targeting me, need to see my video. I campaign in a sari & do #Yoga & am proud of my Hindu heritage. Irrespective of which Party u support, I will work to make sure that nobody has to face #Hinduphobia like @SonalRShah faced a few years ago

1. To all the bigoted Hinduphobes who constantly harp on & on & on & on & on & on & on about the "caste system" when talking about Hinduism - we see you & we're gonna start calling your SORRY ASSES OUT. Hinduism is the world's oldest religion and is a deeply profound..
2. spiritual, scientific, & all-encompassing living philosophy. It has survived for millennia & it’s beautiful teachings are flourishing organically in America for a reason: they work. Hinduism has given the world yoga, meditation, Ayurveda, the concepts of karma, dharma,...
3. non-duality, consciousness, chakras, & so much more. To reduce it to the “caste system” and to make “caste” its defining feature is offensive, grossly Hinduphobic, & belies a deep & profound ignorance of Hinduism’s all encompassing knowledge system. If the “caste system” is...
