The possible collapse of twitter has made me super sad and reflective about what this site has meant to me and how it shaped my work as a literacy researcher and educator and now as an early platform ceo.

i have 45 minutes and i'm about to tweet my guts out.
i was thinking of pitching like a "eulogy for twitter" to @TeenVogue but i'm gonna tweet first instead, unroll it later, and see what i can do with it.

this is off the dome first draft material, we'll see what themes come out. stay with me.
i want to think through how i've used twitter since i made my first account in 2008, how it impacted my teaching and research, what i wish this site could've been, the rise of the multiracial patriarchy whitelash, and ultimately how and why i founded @germnetwork this year

It is with a heavy heart I write to you this evening, yet I am encouraged by those who choose to engage daily in #AntiRacistEd action. In the midst of a global pandemic when we were relegated to engaging with each other daily online and not face to face you chose to engage.
You chose to act on #AntiRacistEd when people around the globe took notice of state-sanctioned violence against black bodies. Perhaps you saw the students and families in your care in the faces of the black & brown bodies that have succumbed to this state-sanctioned violence.
Perhaps you saw harm in the rhetoric that has been spewed in our country to the students in your care. Today we experienced an unprecedented event that will go down in history. What is very apparent to me is that we as educators have control over the messaging, the engagement,

A thread: please be aware that the convo re multiculturalism, racism, proto-racism, oppression, etc. Is not a NEW thing in #classics and #latinteach ... A number of people have been and are doing this work for years and we've been ridiculed for it. 1/? #classicstwitter
Just because a white man says something women and BIPOC have been working on and saying doesn't mean it's new. We've been saying for years to (1) reconsider the canon, (2) BIPOC and women and LGBTQIA+ need to be included in the conversation. #Classics #latinteach #classicstwitter
(3) the Romans were colonisers, rapists, and violent. This isn't new. There is a lot of work to be done and there is room for everyone to do it. In the classroom, in professional orgs, in scholarship. #classics #classicstwitter #latinteach

There are loads of resources out there for #BestPractices. Today, let's discuss the strengths & limitations YOU've found in trying #STEM #storytelling, #comedy, #SciArt, #digital, & more!
I'll start w/ my favorite resources: @edbeltane & @OliverEscobar's "Public Dialogue & Delibration" & #WendyFaulkner's "Dialogue in #PublicEngagement" handbooks.

How do participant #communication styles impede/help your purpose, eg. #dialogue vs #debate?

These have been crucial in my understanding of #experiencedesign when creating events or experiences for diverse #scicomm audiences & participants.

There's a purpose for panels and debates. But also a reason why they fail in "changing minds" or creating power-balanced convos.

So I'm going to post some links.... All purchases go to supporting initiatives I am a part of/helping to lead. Recently had somebody reach out asking for my Venmo to compensate me for all they learn from me on Twitter. I appreciate that. Here are additional ways...[THREAD]
#Educolor is my heart home. It is where familia, intense dreaming, and powerful activism centered around educational equity starts and ends for me.
#DisruptTexts is a little thing we have going on recognized by @NYTimesLearning and @chicagotribune so let's keep disrupting the literary canon and all THAT.
