May 15th, Age 767: after three days of rest, Goku recovers from his heart disease (a week earlier than Trunks expected). The situation may be dire, but Goku knows the perfect place where Vegeta and Trunks can finally spend some quality father/son time together... #HistoryofEver
Speaking of quality time, Goku and Chi Chi get a nice moment together in the anime, sharing a kiss far too hot to actually show on screen. Or include in the canon, for that matter.
Alright, so…in the original manga, Goku and Chi Chi are never shown kissing. In DBZ ep.147 they share an offscreen kiss (they later made a figurine based on this). In the DBS anime and manga, Goku claims never to have kissed his wife. Draw your own conclusions. 
May 12th, Age 767 (Bad Future Edition): at 10 AM on an island 9km southwest of South City, 17 and 18 begin their assault. Vegeta and co are mowed down, leaving Gohan sole survivor. Even the dragon balls are no use, since Pilaf and co wasted them on a dumb wish. #HistoryofEver
May 12th, Age 767 (Better Future Edition): 19 and 20 appear on schedule, but Our Heroes are ready. Well, Goku gets a bit sick, but Vegeta covers for him. While 19 and 20 don’t last long, 17 and 18 make short work of the gang. And that’s just the beginning of their problems…
Yes, it’s another busy day. May 12th has the honor of being one of the few specific dates mentioned in the series, although the year 767 comes from the Daizenshuu 7 timeline. If there’s any number pun significance to this date, I haven’t been able to find it.
May 7th, Age 767: after 11 years, the Tenkaichi Budokai is finally reopened, though Goku and co are apparently too busy android-training to notice. Instead, Mister Satan is champion, beating some jerk called “Spopovitch” in Round 1, then facing Jewel in the finals #HistoryofEver
The 24th TB also introduces a new “youth division” for entrants under 15, which is won by Satan’s daughter Videl. Satan becomes famous as world champ and moves to Orange Star City, which is renamed “Satan City” in his honor. Though they don’t bother renaming the high school.
When Mister Satan first appears in the lead-up to the Cell Games, he’s introduced simply as the world martial arts champion (using 格闘技/kakutōgi, a different word for “martial arts” than 武道/budō ala the Tenkaichi Budokai).
Age 764 to 767: far out on the galaxy’s movie rim, Cooler belatedly learns of his brother’s loss to Goku…but not how he became a cyborg and went to Earth with their dad, where they both got killed by a completely different Saiyan. News travels slowly in space. #HistoryofEver
For the timing of DBZ Movie 5, Daizenshuu 6 notes Roshi’s line about “since Goku returned from Namek”, and so places it in the 3 years between Trunks and the androids’ arrival. The Daizenshuu 7 timeline follows suit and dates it to between 764 and 767.
The movie itself makes no mention of Trunks killing Freeza, and for good reason: it was released in July of 1991, right at the same time as Trunks debuted in the manga, so during the film’s production the staff were presumably unaware of these future plot developments.
Age 764: after some debate, Our Heroes decide not to use their foreknowledge to stop Gero from making his killer androids, because where’s the fun in that? Instead, they begin a three year crash training course. #HistoryofEver
Since getting teleported to Earth from Namek, Vegeta has been freeloading at Capsule Corp, relying on them for room and board, plus advanced training equipment. But his presence there threatens to break up a long-standing relationship…
Bikini isn’t the only one charmed by Vegeta’s distinctive forehead. It seems love might be blooming in Bulma’s brain too. After all, Yamcha hasn’t always been faithful. Or at least that’s what she says…
August, Age 764: thanks to his new Yardrat skills, Goku makes it back in time to save Earth from Freeza and his dad Cold. He finishes off the unrepentant villains for good, but dies of natural causes sometime later. Yes, we’re at the start of a pretty big downer… #HistoryofEver
Wait wait, let’s try this again…August, Age 764: Freeza and Cold arrive on Earth, and Goku’s spaceship is still three hours away. Just as he’s about to use his new Yardrat skills to teleport the rest of the way, somebody steps in and solves his problem for him…
This mysterious stranger slices and dices Freeza, leaving him incapacitated but technically still alive, before finally incinerating the remaining pieces with a ki blast. The world is saved, but who is this guy?! He ain’t telling nobody but Goku (and any big-eared eavesdroppers)
October, Age 763: the planet Makyo swings by Earth for the first time in 5,000 years. Naturally this makes those on Earth of Makyo descent a gazillion times stronger, thus allowing Garlic Jr to break out of the movies and invade the main series. #HistoryofEver
There’s worldwide chaos as Junior and co turn Earth’s population into demons, but it’s all cleaned up in time to celebrate Sea Turtle’s 1,000th birthday. This might also be Hit’s 1,000th birthday for all we know. Nobody can prove otherwise.
The narrator says the Garlic Junior arc is ~10 months after the events on Namek, which sounds oddly specific until you remember all the post-Namek wishing lasted 260 days total (130 days x2). That’s a little under 9 months, so “10 months after Namek”=“1 month after the wishing”
May 3rd, Age 763: after 130 days spent idling around Capsule Corp, the Namekians’ dragon balls revive. Kuririn’s spirit is returned to Earth and resurrected, but Goku opts out of a free ride home, so that he can continue training with Pybara. #HistoryofEver
With one wish still free, Bulma resurrects Yamcha. Now they can live happily ever after! Another full (Namekian) year later on September 10th, Tenshinhan and Chiaotzu are revived, and the Namekians depart for a new vaguely Namek-y planet. Now they can live happily ever after!
It’s not all good news in 763 though: sometime during this year, a time machine arrives from an alternate timeline, and a big cicada monster crawls out and burrows underground. Around this same time, Kami starts feeling real uneasy, but he can’t quite put his finger on why…
Late Age 762 to early 763: rumors of Freeza’s death are greatly exaggerated. King Cold comes out of retirement to fetch his son from the remains of Namek and give him a cyborg upgrade. Hopefully they got charged a better rate than Tao. #HistoryofEver
Goku’s likewise not nearly so dead as supposed. While Kaio’s not looking, he escapes Namek in a Ginyu Force ship, which takes him to the group’s last target: Yardrat, a world outside Galactic Patrol jurisdiction but overseen by Elder Pybara, the master of Spirit Control.
Goku tells the Yardratians about his role in the Ginyu Force’s defeat (and even the part Vegeta played), thus earning their eternal gratitude. They give him some of their native garb to replace his beat-up clothes, and he begins learning Spirit Control from Pybara.
December 24th, Age 762: the Ginyu Force arrive on Namek. Goku arrives on Namek. Goku beats the Ginyu Force. Freeza beats everybody else. Goku gets mad. #HistoryofEver
Yes, Goku’s S-Cells finally kick into high gear. It’s far too much for filler land’s computers to handle! Plus we learn an awful lot about Kewi’s race. Apparently Freeza wiped them out, but promised the survivors he’d make them prosper again. Talk about an abusive relationship.
To recap: Goku begins a six-day trip on Day 1 of the Namek arc, the Ginyu Force start a five-day trip on Day 2, so both arrive on Day 7. In the meantime, Vegeta kills Zarbon on Day 3 and spends the next four days trying to locate Kuririn+Gohan as they head for the Great Elder.
December 18th, Age 762: Bulma and co finally arrive on Namek but discover the story arc has started without them. While Freeza already has three dragon balls, the Namekians rapidly deplete his supply of mooks. Even Cranberry is lost to Zarbon’s friendly fire. #HistoryofEver
Vegeta arrives soon after Team Bulma and makes short work of Kewi and Dodoria. Zarbon takes him a little longer, but by the 20th Freeza is completely out of staff on Namek. Fortunately he’s already summoned the Ginyu Force (on holiday from their Yardrat invasion). ETA: 5 days.
The supreme importance of Zarbon kicking Cranberry is spelt out in Toyotaro’s DBS vol.10 bonus manga, which explains how this is what enabled Cranberry to return to life, which by extension sets off the entire Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc in the fullness of time.
November 21st, Age 762: after much finagling, Bulma and co head off to Namek in Kami’s old spaceship. Seven days later, Vegeta reaches Planet Vegeta No.79 and has a chat with his old rival Kewi, while in filler land Bulma and co run into some of Kewi’s victims. #HistoryofEver
Kewi’s not the only one in Freeza’s forces who’s been busy. Right around now, the Ginyu Force are attacking Planet Yardrat, home to a race who utilize Spirit Control for a variety of seemingly disparate techniques. Vegeta likes the Ginyu Force about as much as he does Kewi.
After the Saiyan battle, we skip to the hospital the next day. Kuririn and Gohan are due to be discharged in three days, while Goku will take far longer, barring any magic beans (fan lore has it that this is “Wukong Hospital, even though the sign looks more like “We—kong”)
November 3rd, Age 762: at exactly 11:43 (East City Time), Vegeta and Nappa finally land on Earth. They take out East City and confront Piccolo and co by 12:20. Soon Yamcha, Chiaotzu, Tenshinhan (and six Saibaimen) are all dead, before Vegeta calls a timeout. #HistoryofEver
After three hours of waiting for Goku, the battle begins again, and Piccolo (and Kami and the dragon balls) die before Goku finally arrives. Meanwhile, Gero’s spy robot has a field day. So many cells, so little time! It’s a shame Goku still kinda sucks at the Kamehameha though…
Goku takes out Nappa with the Ken he learned from Kaio, and even gives Vegeta a run for his money, but fails to finish the job. By now the sun is starting to set (so this battle has lasted many hours, even apart from the 3 hour wait), and Vegeta has an idea…
November, Age 762: on Earth, above Earth, and up in the afterlife, everyone continues to train hard in preparation for Vegeta and Nappa’s arrival. Even Kaio gets in on the action, although he soon tuckers out. #HistoryofEver
Goku hasn’t trained under 10G since his month in the time chamber as a kid, so he’s a little out of practice. To warm up, he spends weeks catching Bubbles, then (in the anime) nearly as long catching Gregory. By November though, he’s ready for a speed run…
As mentioned yesterday, the DBZ anime’s Saiyan arc training filler incorporates many ideas which Toriyama provided for the anime staff, and Gregory is a prime example. Toriyama came up with his character design and a few notes when asked for an extra character for Goku’s training
Age 761, let’s say November: Goku is dead, but in this series that’s only a temporary inconvenience at most. Word goes down the pipeline not to resurrect him before he can get some solid training in. #HistoryofEver
Meanwhile on Earth, the band gets back together again to climb up to Kami’s for training of their own. Down on the ground, Lunch is the same as ever…but Upa looks a bit different.
(The shortchanged ghost is a reference to the famous Japanese ghost story Banchō Sarayashiki, the joke being that in Japanese both plates and paper money are counted with the measure word 枚/mai. One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho also riff on this tale. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banchō_Sa…)
Age 761: five years after becoming world champion and marrying Chi Chi, Goku’s life is irrevocably changed by unwelcome visitors. He’ll have to join forces with his arch-rival Piccolo in order to beat his most powerful foe yet and rescue his kidnapped son. #HistoryofEver
Also, later that same year Raditz shows up.
Raditz tracks down his brother and gives him a semi-accurate explanation of his Saiyan origins. Sure, he doesn’t seem to know the truth about Planet Vegeta’s destruction or the real reason Bardock sent Goku to Earth, etc etc, but cut him some slack. He’s a fighter, not a teacher!
Age 760 or so: from their base on Planet Freeza No.79, Freeza’s forces control at least 282% of all inhabited worlds. But they’re still expanding! The Saiyan trio of Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz conquer Planet Shatts with overwhelming power (and no visual movement). #HistoryofEver
(This Tsufruian clearly thought he could escape the Saiyans by immigrating to Planet Shatts. How naive!)
Sadly, Freeza and his retinue are unmoved by the Saiyans’ hard work, and a tense stand-off ensues. Only the ever-impulsive Nappa dares break the stillness.
Age 760 to 770: after decades of work, Doctor Mu completes Planet M2, home base for his Machine Mutants as they gather energy for Baby. Mu converts an alien named Rild into a Machine Mutant linked to M2 itself, thus making him stronger than Buu (well, one of them) #HistoryofEver
Rild’s connection to M2 is explained in GT, but it’s only in the GT Perfect File Vol.1 that we learn he started out as an ordinary alien before Mu restructured him into a Machine Mutant (similar to Gero’s later treatment of Lapis and Lazuli).
Around 759~760: Goku gets interviewed by Weekly Jump! Or so says the Daizenshuu 7 timeline. Jump’s done “interviews” with the cast of Yu Yu Hakusho and The Adventure of Dai, so I assume the daizenshuu is referencing a similar feature for DB…but I’ve been unable to find it yet.
Age 753 to 756: to prepare for his rematch with Piccolo, young Goku trains in that most hyperbolic of all time chambers, the Room of Spirit and Time, but he’s unable to stand its harsh environment for more than a month. He also samples Popo’s off-brand time room. #HistoryofEver
Meanwhile, down on the ground floor, kid Piccolo’s wacky adventures continue. He’ll grow into an adult over the course of the next three years, putting Dende to shame (yet he’s still a late bloomer compared to Piccolo Senior’s other children, who came out full-grown in seconds)
Now that he’s got Goku close at hand, Kami permanently removes his tail so that he can safely bring back the moon without any future monkey mayhem. But he doesn’t fully explain his true motives to Goku, so it’s not until years later that Goku finally puts two and two together.
May 9th, Age 753: the very first Piccolo Day ends in tragedy as the newly appointed World King is assassinated by a disgruntled youth before his visionary social policies can be fully implemented. Fortunately the king has an heir lined up... #HistoryofEver
Yes, Piccolo is dead. Long live Piccolo! His son/reincarnation/doppelgänger/whatever hatches safely, thus carrying on the mystic link between Piccolo Senior and Kami. God only knows how this stuff works, but it does. Apparently.

750~753: Goku furthers his education by traveling the world on foot. In the manga, this period of his life is skipped over, but the anime provides us with several episodes from these years, including his foray into the Demon World to rescue a kidnapped princess. #HistoryofEver
Meanwhile back on the range, Yamcha begins his life as Roshi’s pupil. I wonder if the people on this island appreciate having their milk delivered this way?
DB ep.81 features the series’ first foray into the Demon World (魔界), home turf of Dabura and numerous Heroes/Xenoverse villains. This episode owes a thing or two to the 1983 film Zu: Warriors from the Magic Mountain
May 12th, Age 750: on his third day atop Karin Tower, Goku finally manages to nab the magic water, learns that the real magic was the skills he built along the way, and heads back down to face Tao again. Things go better this time. #HistoryofEver
Meanwhile, sideways in time, things go even worse for Tao. No matter which universe, the conclusion is clear: Tao will never trouble Goku or his friends or family again!
With Tao now totally and completely dead, Goku charges Red Ribbon HQ. His army in ruins, Red spills the beans about his true motives for going after the dragon balls, which Black fails to appreciate. Elsewhere, Gero does...something, presumably.
May 9th, 750: after spending the night in Jingle Village, Goku reunites with Bulma in West City, then goes after pirate treasure in the south seas. This leads to a big chase between him and General Blue, which leads to... #HistoryofEver
That’s right, it’s Penguin Village! The setting of everyone’s favorite Akira Toriyama series, Dr. Slump! After the requisite crossover hijinks, Arale sends Blue packing and Goku goes on his merry way before anyone can think too deeply about continuity issues
In his Adventure Special Q&A from the middle of the Piccolo arc, Toriyama answered two questions about Arale, saying she probably wouldn’t appear again (true until the Super anime) and that she’s probably stronger than Goku (by Super they seem about even) kanzenshuu.com/translations/a…
May 8th, 750: Goku is looking for the dragon balls (well, one particular dragon ball). So is the Red Ribbon Army. Result: trouble. After taking down Silver Platoon, Goku moves on to Muscle Tower, where he meets Gero’s eighth foray into the field of androidry. #HistoryofEver
Sno’s prayers apparently do the trick, because Goku Prime lucks out of fighting No.8. Over in anniversary movie world though, a young Goku Xeno gets his ass handed to him before 8’s gentle nature kicks in:
