@virtwriting Many thanks to @virtwriting for inviting me to talk about #HowIGotMyAgent this week. As an author based in Pakistan, my journey has been particularly hard, but like they say, nothing is impossible in this world. I'm represented by @CROSSLANDAM @aforauthors (1/12)
@virtwriting @CROSSLANDAM @aforauthors It wasn't until 2012 that I seriously considered writing a book. Call it chance, but around that time I came across the inaugural @FaberAcademy 6 Month Online Novel Writing Course offered in association with @Profwriting. Believe me, that course changed my life! (2/12)
@virtwriting @CROSSLANDAM @aforauthors @FaberAcademy @Profwriting Not only did I learn about writing, but also how the world of publishing worked. For the first time, I had an idea of who literary agents were and what exactly they did. I went on to take the Editing course once again @FaberAcademy (3/12)

@virtwriting Hello! Many thanks to @virtwriting for inviting me to talk about #HowIGotMyAgent. I owe a lot to the panel at Penguin Random House’s #WriteNow mentorship event in Bristol for what I learned about the agent querying process (thread 1/15)
@virtwriting The advice that kept repeating was to make sure that you’re happy with your MS before sending it off. You’ve read it out loud, on different mediums, & maybe asked beta readers for feedback—everything possible to gain distance ie. fresh eyes. You feel in your gut it’s ready (2/15)
@virtwriting The agents wanted clarity, conciseness, & a pitch that drew them in. The latter is subjective & why it’s important to shortlist agents who are a good fit for your MS. Who do they represent? What are their tastes? Check on agency site, interviews, twitter (3/15)

@virtwriting Hello @virtwriting and all the #VWG crew. My path to agented bliss😃took some hard work & masses of help from a lot of talented, generous people. As well as a touch of serendipity, that I’ll get to later…#HowIGotMyAgent 1/17
@virtwriting I’m going to start my story long before I began querying with my current novel, Hear No Evil. Why? Because, if I don’t, my path to representation looks too easy & you’ll all hate me.😠Don't worry I don't go as far back as my Brownie Writer Badge😬#HowIGotMyAgent 2/17
@virtwriting I turned 50🧓& realised I needed help to galvanise myself & the writing. I took a year off work & did an MLitt @UofGWriting. I was determined to get my money’s worth so, in contrast to my undergraduate career 30 years before, I gave it my all. #HowIGotMyAgent 3/17
