Hey Neptune. Did you ring? đź‘‹

Webb’s latest image is the clearest look at Neptune's rings in 30+ years, and our first time seeing them in infrared light. Take in Webb's ghostly, ethereal views of the planet and its dust bands, rings and moons: go.nasa.gov/3RXxoGq #IAC2022 In this Webb image, Neptune resembles a pearl with rings tha
In visible light, Neptune appears blue due to small amounts of methane gas in its atmosphere. Webb’s NIRCam instrument instead observed Neptune at near-infrared wavelengths, so Neptune doesn’t look so blue! 3 side-by-side images of Neptune. From left to right, the fi
That’s no star. It’s Neptune’s large, unusual moon, Triton! Because Triton is covered in frozen, condensed nitrogen, it reflects 70% of the sunlight that hits it — making it appear very bright to Webb. 6 of Neptune’s other moons (labeled) are also seen here. And here it is! "Susie" from @ArianeGroup @Arianespace - making Ariane 6 more flexible for next-generation space infrastructure #IAC2022
7 tonnes back to Earth, and critically, the ability to abort during any phase of the mission *including during powered vertical descent* - not sure that would be the most comfortable experience...

Space Sustainability time at #SGC2022! We got
Dan Oltrogge of @COMSPOC, @LecasMorgane of @astroscale_HQ, and Al Tadros of @RedwireSpace on stage.

Livestream is here:
Dan starting off by recognizing that we are past the era of "space is big, don't worry about it."

Between ASATs, megaconstellations, and a very busy LEO, we can't ignore it anymore. Even if only ~25% of the orbit applications actually turn into reality.
@COMSPOC is an #SSA company who is thus quite invested in space sustainability.

@astroscale_HQ is a space debris removal company (who have an excellent podcast, btw)

@RedwireSpace does a lot of space hardware including sensors

Next @SGC2022 keynote is Marco Brancati of @telespazio. He's hear to talk about a competition launching during #IAC2022 next week.
*here

someday I will learn to proofread my tweets, but not this day apparently
I feel like @telespazio is one of those major space companies that folks have never heard of. They've been around since the 60s, have been involved in all sorts of space programs, and have one of the more multi-national (multicontinental, really) footprints in the space industry.

We're proud to announce the formation of Brick Moon, a consultancy helping space habitat designers and mission planners.
The founders, @drspacejunk, @sevensixfive, and @jstpwalsh, are experienced researchers with backgrounds in the social sciences and architectural design. Our insights come from data, not anecdotes.
The name Brick Moon comes from the first fictional description of a space habitat, in a short story of the same name by Edward Everett Hale in 1869. We're inspired by his creativity and the long history of humans imagining their lives in space.

Today, at the Spring Technical Meeting of the Canadian Section of Combustion Institute, @cbkiyanda and I will be hosting a special session featuring the student-team-led propulsion activity across Canada, centered around the @Spaceport_Cup competition.
Opening keynote by Adam Trumpour of @Launch_Canada: There are now 22 university-based student rocket teams across Canada, half of which are now active in development of their own hybrid or liquid bipropellant engines, representing the effort of thousands of students. Image
Adam points out that rocket team activity is now the main student-led engineering activity at many Canadian universities. Adam will be hosting a Canadian-based launch event this August in Cochrane, Ontario, #LaunchCanada. launchcanada.org
