On #IDPWD, I'm sharing some of my favourite quotes from submissions to the Aus #LongCOVID enquiry and joint standing committee.

"Reassurance is incredibly important because, by the time they get to see us, the patients are just paralysed with hypervigilance"
...
"We've learnt to not over-investigate"
"There is no pathophysiology"
"One of those roadblocks [to getting better] is anxiety and frustration"
- Royal Melbourne Hospital Post-Covid Clinic, source parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/downl…
"The consequence is that COVID infections have further reduced activity levels of a huge number of individuals who were already extraordinarily inactive. This provides an attractive explanation for the high prevalence of Long COVID."

Apparently Novak Djokovic has joined the disability community now and people are getting all judgy but I’m prepared to take you on face value so here’s a welcome note to our world @DjokerNole #tennisaustralia (Thread).
You may notice a swirl of strangers coming in and out of your house every day. Sometimes the people that turn up might not be the people expected. How exciting! Some will wear masks or be vaxxed and others might try & choose not to. But hey I know you’re down with choice
You are entitled to rapid antigen tests to see if these people are carrying a plague that might kill you. You can get five! Like just five. Not in a week. 5. After applying through Centrelink. And then waiting for the money to come. And then trying to find one.

Happy International Day for Persons with disAbilities!
🦿🦾🧑‍🦽👩‍🦯👩‍🦼🧏🦻💛
This is a day to advocate for equal rights & inclusion, the theme this year highlights that persons living with disabilities have been deeply impacted by the pandemic. In a post COVID-19 era we must remove /1
barriers, making sure that all people are cared for w/equity, whether the disability is visible or not.
In #Ontario we know we can do so much more to improve programs like ODSP— that’s why I won’t stop fighting for those improvements. /2
Today I’m happy to celebrate diversity, and the role we all play, regardless of our abilities. 3/3

I’ve questioned whether 2 tell this story as theres a sense of shame in it.

A terrible sinking feeling that in some way I may have been at fault, I embarrassed my kids, I couldve done things differently.

But today on #IDPW #IDPW2020 its worth telling. 1/14

Its a tiny woeful story about a hot chocolate order from #jamaicablue at #Indooroopilly shopping centre.

It ends in tears, humiliation...all over three seats.

It’s a story about privilege & ableism. It’s a familiar story for me, a disabled woman. 2/14
Because theres always someone in the disabled bay without a permit, someone pushing ahead of a wheelchair in a queue, someone in a disabled toilet who shouldn’t b there & a guy who says you just need 2 get up & leave.

Always someone who cant see past their privilege. 3/14 #IDPWD

17 years ago, when I was lying on the hospital bed, I heard a bunch of women whisper, “Did you see that new girl in the general ward? What a shame! She must be cursed as now her life has now come to an end.”
#WorldDisabilityDay #InternationalDisabilityDay #IDPD2019 #Disability
That was the very first time I cried my eyes out. Not when I saw my amputated arms covered in blood. Not when I saw the doctors drilling iron rods inside my leg. Not when I was battling for my dear life.
I was labeled the disabled girl with no future. The naive 13 year old mind inside me was ready to believe their verdict on my life and had it not been for the unconditional support of my family and friends, I’d have given up.
