1. So, hereâs how the faith thing works. Itâs like a machine. Think of a car engine with three gears or cogs that are all held together by a fan belt. Thatâs what the machinery looks like. #Illuminare
2. The first gear is the provisions made by God. The Bible says God has blessed us with EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 1:3 KJV. #Illuminare
1. The Bible says to visit the house of mourning if you want cogitative wisdom. Ecclesiastes 7:2-4. The house of mourning is not necessarily a funeral parlor. A hospital qualifies as house of mourning. #Illuminare
2. You become sober when you visit a hospital. Itâs the opposite of a house of mirth â a night club or beer parlor. What is alarming is the continual supply of patients. The flow just never stops. #Illuminare

2. He just carried on with the program. Communion was the dramatized pre-announcement of the program of atonement. This is in consonance with Godâs time-honored tradition of announcing stuff before it happens. Isaiah 42:9. #Illuminare
3. On a sentimental level, the rite of communion was designed to be an In Memoriam - like the placement of a memorial advert for a loved one in the dailies on the anniversary of death. Jesus said we should do it in affectionate remembrance of him. 1 Corinthians 11:24 AMPC.
1. Itâs virtually impossible to appreciate the full ramification of the New Testament without recourse to the legal construct undergirding it. The New Testament is resolutely mounted on a tripod of commercial law, criminal law and constitutional law. #Illuminare
2. There are other legal dimensions but those are the major three. Without those legal authorities the New Testament will not be efficacious in heaven, on earth or under the earth. It will just be history. #Illuminare
3. Thatâs not to say only lawyers can appreciate the New Testament. Itâs the Holy Spirit that unveils the word. But thereâs a way and manner a Paul would read the scriptures that Peter canât. #Illuminare
1. Iâm always perplexed and even get dumbfounded every time I receive a mail from a reader of Illuminare and the content reveals he or she is unfamiliar with the byproducts of the atonement of Jesus â what we call New Testament realities. #Illuminare
2. These are our rights in Christ Jesus. Satan of course capitalizes on such ignorance with demonic oppression. And yet the Bible says you will not experience oppression. Isaiah 54:14 NET. If you donât know your rights Satan will oppress you. #Illuminare

3. But the scriptures also say thereâs a power at work within us, and that that power is not dormant, it is active. God is able to do abundantly beyond all we can ask or think by the working of that power within us. Ephesians 3:20. #Illuminare
1. Without a doubt there are challenges in life. And they come in various shades and sizes. As you study responses to those challenges however, you soon realize some people will rather be pitied than fight the good fight of faith. #Illuminare
2. They derive comfort from a feeling of helplessness. Thereâs that feeling of self-righteousness - âI donât deserve all these trials. Life is unfair to me. My life is full of difficulties. Why me?â #Illuminare
3. But the devil doesnât care about fairness. Thereâs no moral bone in his body. Satan is sadistic. Heâll gleefully lay cancer on a baby. Any discussion of fairness where the devil is concerned is a conversation headed in the wrong direction. Itâs a nonstarter. #Illuminare
1. When I was five or six years old â I canât remember the exact age - I had a profound experience. I was transported to a place called Golgotha - the skull-shaped hill where Jesus was crucified. #Illuminare
2. I do not know whether it was in the body or out of the body, to use an expression of Paul. It was Good Friday. The sky had turned willowy gray, pliant, like a dough mix. And I found myself at the scene of the crucifixion. #Illuminare

2. Youâve also probably wondered why he doesnât speak audibly. And why do we need to seek his will instead of just knowing it? #Illuminare
3. And why canât we just get healing for our diseases immediately, why do we need to confess his word, believe for days, months, or even years before we see our healing? #Illuminare
1. This is going to be a bit hard this morning, but itâs what I need and itâs what you need. Weâre moving into the practicality of faith. The lessons are going to be direct, and even personal. #Illuminare
2. In the first season of Illuminare we laid the theological foundation for doctrine. In this season weâre focusing on the Christian walk. #Illuminare
3. If thereâs anything Iâve learnt about the Christian walk, itâs the fact that I need to take personal responsibility for my life. Thatâs not a very palatable proposition to be honest. It does not transfer moral burden away from me to God, or to my pastor. #Illuminare
1. Here I am sitting at my desk, wondering how God does it. How does he process all those terabytes of data â all the prayer requests emanating from Planet Earth. There are trillions and trillions of those requests every hour. #Illuminare
2. The world population right now is 7.8 billion. All those people in one way or the other are bombarding Godâs network with their requests and the system never collapses. Itâs rugged and reliable, never breaks down for one second. If it does millions will die. #Illuminare
3. Okay, some of those people donât believe in God, but even if we discount them the pressure on Godâs network will still be humongous. #Illuminare
1. Itâs amazing what a piece of plague can accomplish. Weâve been shuttered at home now for months, unable to fulfill our Sunday, Sunday ablution, unable to go to church. #Illuminare
2. Many churches moved online. They soon progressed to hybridized worship that is partly live and partly virtual. The choir sang in church conscious of social distancing, we joined from home bereft of the environmental cover of the voices of the choir. #Illuminare
3. Now we get a sense of what God endures when we do praise worship. We can hear ourselves. #Illuminare
1. These are very interesting times and we live in Bible days. Thereâs a lot happening and Iâd like to offer some perspective on unfolding events. #Illuminare
2. Letâs consider three questions: a). Where exactly are we in the calendar of events? b). Is there any historical reference material or case study in the Bible similar to what weâre experiencing? c). What posture of faith are we expected to take at this time? #Illuminare
3. If we can answer those questions we will have an understanding of our present reality. Understanding makes symptoms less alarming. #Illuminare
1. Life insists on self-examination. Every now and again life forces us to ask questions of ourselves. #Illuminare
2. Sooner or later everyone arrives at those moments of cogitation â What am I doing with my life? Where exactly is my life going? Am I fulfilled? Am I satisfied with my progress in life? Do I have true friends? Is this relationship going anywhere? #Illuminare
3. There are a thousand and four of these questions life forces us to attend to depending on our circumstances. They will be asked over the course of a lifetime, especially as we approach certain milestones in age. #Illuminare
1. We donât know exactly when he made the resolutions but at some point, David made some resolutions. They might have been new year resolutions. #Illuminare
2. Please donât think thatâs January 1. The ancients used a lunar calendar not the solar one we use. Itâs why the months in the Bible donât correlate with ours. #Illuminare
3. Tishri, the civil new year fell September/October in our modern calendar. Nissan (not the car) was the religious new year. It fell in March/April. Shebat is actually the equivalence of our January/February but it was the eleventh month. #Illuminare
1. There are four women highlighted in the life of David. He married eight wives, had many concubines but only four of the women chapterised his life. #Illuminare
2. The first was Princess Michal, King Saulâs younger daughter. This was teen love. She fell in love with him right after he killed Uncle Goliath. He was a national hero. She had a crush on him. #Illuminare
3. But the idea of dating her was preposterous. He was a poor guy. Howâs a poor guy going to marry a princess? Only in the movies. #Illuminare
1. David was a rap artiste. Check out the lyrics in 2 Samuel 22. The rap is about a guy familiar with death. Tupac also had a haunting familiarity with death. #Illuminare
2. In Open Fire Tupac rapped: âWord to God, Iâve been ready to die since I was born.â And in If I Die Tonight Tupac sang, âI hope they bury me and send me to my rest/Headlines readinâ âMurdered to deathâ/My last breath.â #Illuminare
3. Now, check out Unnamed by David: âThe waves of death crashed over me. Hellâs ropes clinched me tight; death traps barred my exit...â 2 Samuel 22:5-6. You can almost hear the groovesâŚthe trap and heavy percussions. #Illuminare
1. David somehow remains the architype of the 21st century saint. In the Bible a saint is not a dead guy. Every Christian is a saint, including those who are in heaven. To use an evocative phraseology, theyâre the saints triumphant. Theyâve overcome death. #Illuminare
2. The word is derived from the Greek verb, âhagiazo.â It basically means âto set apart.â Can also mean âsanctifyâ or âmake holy.â Itâs why Paul constantly referred to Christians as saints in his letters. Ephesians 1:1. #Illuminare
3. And you donât need to be canonized to be a saint. Thereâs no committee on sainthood. Youâre automatically a saint if youâre a Christian. Youâre set apart unto God, made holy. To sound very spiritual, youâre sanctified. #Illuminare
