My (perhaps polemic? we'll see!) opinion: you cannot be a scholar, policymaker or advocate who genuinely believes in the political & social capacity of youth for positive change AND use the term/theory ‘youth bulge’. They are anathema to each other. #ISaidWhatISaid 🧵
Youth bulge is a simplistic, ageist, racist, sexist framing. It scapegoats youth as ‘the problem’ while hiding the structures & leaders who've failed youth. Using it reproduces narratives of deficit & danger, securitises youth, & reinforces ideas of youth as risky 2/
Let me break it down a bit. 1⃣st: youth bulge discourse—the claim that large # s of youth is a proxy/indicator for potential unrest—was popularised in 90s & 00s in the context of the War on Terror. It strengthened framings of youth, particularly young men, as potential threats 3/

Some people critical of my tweets go around using coded language and dog whistles communicating your thoughts on any number of subjects and groups then get upset when I identify the messages in the subtext of what you said.

As with "Love On The Spectrum" before this, I'm needing to take frequent rage breaks as I screen #AsWeSeeIt. The infantilizing. The do-gooding. The dismissiveness. Perpetuating that we are odd, difficult burdens only serves to make the audience feel good about themselves.
For the record, casting authentically is great. Great! But without us in creative positions, the narrative is still the same old othering we've seen forever. #AsWeSeeIt
Further, just because autistic people are included, does not magically absolve productions of responsibility. We too live within this "normal", are exposed to the same belittling messages then believe we are less. Being autistic doesn't grant powers of transcendence. #AsWeSeeIt
Live on @TuckerCarlson last night discussing controversial tweets posted by members of LA D.A. candidate George Gascon’s public policy committee. Tweets called LAPD officers “barbarians”, called for prisons to be abolished, and encouraged protesters to “burn that shit down”.
One of the committee members has since switched her profile to private, while the other is doubling down on her “burn that shit down” comments, saying #isaidwhatisaid. Gascon’s campaign has not made any comment. 
Now she went protected too.

That @PeteButtigieg couldn’t manage to clear his schedule to appear in person or via satellite on the @amjoyshow to have an IMPORTANT conversation w/ (the ONLY black female anchor on @MSNBC) to discuss the racial fallout in S. Bend & #ChiefBoykins confirms everything I suspect.
