Amy Hamm Disciplinary Hearing Day 10 Update:

The one where BARBARA FINDLAY becomes unhinged, followed by FALLING ASLEEP!

If you want unbiased reporting, sorry, today's events preclude me from that...

Today, both sides gave closing arguments on the eligibility of Dr. Marianne Grossman as an expert witness for Amy's defence. Amy's lawyer, Karen Bastow gave her arguments, largely reiterating the written submissions previously submitted to the panel taking just under 40min

2/
Next, the lawyer for @BCnursemidwife, BARBARA FINDLAY, began her arguments. I'll quote her directly as much as was possible contemporaneously. The crux of her argument was that Dr. Grossman was not Canadian an thus her expertise was ineligible.

Here we go with today's next instalment in the Amy Hamm Witch Trial (aka BC College of Nurses and Midwives discipline hearing). Again, I'll be live tweeting highlights

First order of business is submissions to qualify witnesses. Karen Bastow, counsel for Amy, is up first. She outlines some cases she's relying on for qualifying witnesses.
Bastow: Dr. Miriam Grossman is no doubt an expert witness. Amy relies on Charter rights of freedom of expression. This is not a negligence case. It's a speech case. Qualifying Grossman is crucial to demonstrating that Amy is speaking in good faith.

Personal observations on day 8&9 (Jan 10-11, 2023) of Amy Hamm’s (@preta_6) @BCnursemidwife disciplinary hearing. 🧵…

1/
Day 8 wrapped up the testimony of Dr. Greta Bauer.

Dr Bauer continues to present as smug and condescending at times. This is only surpassed by the behaviour of BARBARA FINDLAY on cross examination.

2/
When asked simple, straightforward questions by @LDBildy that challenge her ideology, Dr. Bauer often dodges by making pedantic points about how the ethics of research are performed and how she as an epidemiologist does things.

And we're back for another exciting day of The Amy Hamm Witch Hunt! I'll be tweeting highlights as best I can

#IStandWithAmyHamm #NursesWillSpeak
Counsel for the BC Colleges of Nurses and Midwives Barbara Findlay is cross-examining Dr. Miriam Grossman regarding her qualifications as a witness for the respondent. Going over her CV.
Findlay introduces a transcript of a talk Grossman gave, transcribed by Findlay herself. Karen Bastow, counsel for Amy objects, as the transcript was not done by a third party, asks to see the actual video of the talk instead.

Watching @preta_6's witch hunt er... tribunal today and will try to tweet some highlights as I can

First witness being questioned by Amy's lawyer @LDBildy is sexuality and gender health expert Greta Bauer, continuing her testimony from October
med.umn.edu/news/u-m-medic…
Greta Bauer doesn't know for sure if Lupron is being used off-label for puberty blockade. (It is.) She doesn't know if most children whose puberty is blocked go on to cross-sex hormones. (They do.)

Lisa Bildy tried to get Bauer to agree on a definition of female, offering
Heather Heying's definition: females are individuals who do or did or will or would, but for developmental or genetic anomalies, produce eggs.

Bauer dodged it with another word salad.

#IStandWithAmyHamm
Then BARBARA FINDLAY weighed in with an objection, saying a definition of female is outside Bauer's area of expertise.🤡

Bauer is a professor of epidemiology and biostatistics.

You couldn't make this up. How are we supposed to take these people seriously!?

Obviously, a large part of the BCCNM case is that it is derogatory towards transgender people to say that there are only two sexes, and yet their expert witness cannot even define what sex is.

Day 6 of the disciplinary hearing of @preta_6 by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives is now underway. I'll do my best to capture it again today. Lisa Bildy will now being her cross-examination of Dr. Greta Bauer, witness for the College. >
Bildy starts with an examination of Bauer's report to the College, specifically the terminology used. Bildy: "Have you coined any of these terms?" Bauer: "I don't believe so." Bildy: "How does 'agender' different from 'non-binary'?" Bauer: "Not subscribing to gender." >
Bildy: "Just trying to understand. Are they acknowledging they understand there's gender identity?" Barbara Findlay tries to object. Bauer: "It's one identity that someone might hold." Bildy: "Is non-binary different?" Bauer: "It's a broader identity that includes agender." >

The BCCNM disciplinary hearing of @preta_6 continues with Barbara Findlay's questioning of Greta Bauer.

Findlay opens with a Q re: Dr. Miriam Grossman's written submission regarding female reproduction. Findlay: "Can trans men breastfeed?" Bauer: "Yes." >
Findlay asks about gender fluidity: "Is there an open-ended number of gender identities?" Bauer: "It's not an infinite number. But people have individual ways of expressing gender." >
Findlay continues interrogating Dr. Grossman's written submission. Findlay: "Is sex distinct from gender?" Bauer: "Yes." Now turning to Grossman's comments on Dr. John Money, inventor of "gender identity" and the case of Bruce Reimer. >

Today, as an observer for the disciplinary hearing of @preta_6, I witnessed what I think was one of the most despicable, unethical displays of quackery I've ever seen. A 🧵...

1/
BARBARA FINDLAY, a lawyer for BCCNM, spent the better part of the day attempting to discredit the statements of the expert witnesses that Amy's lawyers plan to call. She asked her last "expert" witness, Dr. Greta Bauer, to opine on the credentials of other witnesses.

2/
This began, by repeatedly referring to Dr. Linda Blade as "Ms. Blade," ignoring the fact that Linda is not only married, but also holds a PhD in Kinesiology from SFU. A fact that ought to have been rather obvious given the context of attempting to discredit her CV.

Listening to @preta_6's hearing and so far Greta Bauer's testimony contains so many contradictions, it's hard to know where to begin. She calls @jk_rowling "transphobic" but when pressed says "I can't say whether she hates anyone because hate is an emotion." >
She says "no one says sex isn't real" but won't admit that womanhood is a biological reality. She talks about male violence but if sex is real and trans identified males are real, why no empathy for women? >
She admitted in previous testimony that sex and gender identity are different categories but is repeatedly conflating sex with gender. Plus Lawyer Barbara Findlay frames everything in terms of male and female. The whole line of questioning is a dog's breakfast of illogic. >

This will be the thread for my notes of the third day of the @BCnursemidwife Hearing for @preta_6 This hearing took place on Sept 23. #nurseswillspeak #womenwillspeak #IStandWithAmyHamm

Day 2 is here and includes a link to Day 1
As a reminder, this is a hearing into two complaints (one anonymous, one by Alex Turrif) that were originally about @preta_6’s participation in putting up a billboard that said I ❤️@jk_rowling.
This apparently morphed into an investigation of Amy’s social media and participation in political action supporting women’s sex based rights and resulted in citation by the College. At one point, it included a charge of provide in medically incorrect information.

Day 2 of this hearing took place on Sept 22. This is the second of three planned days for the @BCnursemidwife College to present a case to support their citation.
Excerpt from the citation is below. Important to note that this all began because of two complaints, one by Alex Turriff, one anonymous about a I❤️@jk_rowling billboard that @preta_6 helped put up.

After two days of hearings for @preta_6, there’s a nagging thought that I can’t shake after watching yesterday’s cross examination of the head of the UBC nursing program by Amy’s very diligent lawyer, Karen Bastow:

1/x
Amy graduated from the UBC nursing program, with honours, roughly a decade ago and has maintained continuing education since then. She is facing two allegations from the public, one of which is still anonymous regarding her public comments on social media.

2/x
Many of the comments in question are based in the factual information professed to her by UBC. These facts are rooted in hundreds of years of scientific consensus about the biological reality of the human species.

Tomorrow, the disciplinary hearing for BC nurse Amy Hamm @preta_6 will begin.

She is being forced to undergo a 7 day hearing, for complaints about her advocacy of women’s rights on her personal time. She is not accused of any professional misconduct while performing her duties.
The hearing is being conducted by the provincial regulator for nursing and midwifery.

I have registered to observe the hearing, and will be watching in support of Amy, who, I believe is being bullied and threatened with potential loss of her nursing license for stating truth.
This is what has become of Canada.

I still hold out hope that the regulator, when forced to face facts and evidence in a hearing, might realize its mistake and do the right thing.

As unlikely as that might be, my secondary hope is that this will bring public scrutiny.
