The Biden #immigrationbill is a course correction.

We had been listening to white supremacists & allies for far too long.

The last 4 years were just a peek at what they would have done if we continued to give them a seat at the table.
Who in particular am I talking about? Glad you asked!

Just finished reading the 66-page summary of the Biden #ImmigrationBill. It's not the law yet! But here are some highlights:

1. New "Lawful Prospective Immigrant" status, or LPI. Good for 6 years, and can file for green card after 5.

Eligibility: In US since 1/1/2021.
If you were here for 3y and departed/deported during Trump presidency, you can qualify for LPI status.

Receipt notice of LPI status serves as a work permit.

LPI status cannot be used by ICE. Many crimes disqualify you.

Those who had certain statuses on 1/1/21 are ineligible.
2. Dreamers can skip LPI and go straight to green card. A Dreamer is anyone who entered the US under age 18 and before 1/1/2021. Dramatically more than DACA!

Current DACA recipients will enjoy an easier, streamlined green card process.

Spouses and children included!

The new #ImmigrationBill is runs the risk to increasing slavery and exploitation, as well explained in this article by @lulagranada and @timfarron politics.co.uk/comment-analys…

Here are some key points:

"this new system includes no general route for migration into low-paid work".
"people wanting to come to the UK for jobs paying less than £25,600 a year – many of which have recently been upgraded in public rhetoric from 'low-skilled' to 'essential' – will no longer be able to do so"
"unless they qualify for one of the UK's three short-term work visas (agriculture, youth and domestic work) or are on the shortage occupation list".

Welcome to the @4refugeewomen takeover of the @EverydaySexism account! Tonight three women will share their stories of what it is like to be locked up in immigration detention.

Join the conversation by using #SetHerFree
Near Bedford, on an industrial estate that was a former military research facility, there is a detention centre for women called #YarlsWood.

Here, over 1500 women who have come to the UK to escape persecution are locked up each year.

#SetHerFree
There is no time limit on immigration detention in the UK, so women can be locked up for weeks, months or even years.

The UK is the only country in Europe with no time limit on detention. This is a human rights scandal.

That regular reminder of a world watching, aghast not only at Britain’s politicians trashing its stability, economy & prosperity, tossing reputation & common sense aside, but also at the shrugging of shoulders by so many at such grotesque game-playing.

Absurd doesn’t cover this.
Another trait to throw into this unstable Brexit mix is a total lack of empathy or compassion.

This incomprehensible carefree attitude to the rights of Brits in the EU & those who made their lives on our island. The #ImmigrationBill is a disgrace.

This is all such a disgrace.
There are people panicking at the impact on their futures, and their children’s futures, for their rights, for business reasons. And medical reasons. And fear of the unleashing of xenophobia whilst Britain just shrugs.

This is a disgrace.

Now did I got that right?
"MPs were divided at the first reading but the bill (Note: that FTR will screw the NHS) passed with 297 votes in favour to 234 against at second reading."
78 Labour MPs didn't vote.
The opposition could have opposed, but passed?
euronews.com/2019/01/28/uk-…
Please someone tell me I got that wrong.
F*** I don't.
"We'll pretend to oppose -but just pretend to."

The #immigrationbill being debated today is not fit for purpose. I will vote against it because it undermines the #citizensrights of 3.6m EU citizens in the UK, threatening to put many under the hostile environment and making them at risk of detention and deportation.
It will force our NHS and other vital services into an even deeper staffing crisis. There are already 41,000 nursing vacancies in England. The salary threshold still under consideration would exclude many skilled medical staff, including nurses, paramedics and midwives.
It continues the inhumane practice of indefinite detention. We remain the only European country which does not set a time limit for detained migrants. This sullies our international reputation and undermines complaints we make about human rights abuses abroad.

The ledger Immigration "to do list" for Congress:
WE NEED TO END CHAIN MIGRATION.
WE NEED A MERIT-BASED, QUOTA SYSTEM.
WE NEED TO ISSUE VISAS ON A CASE BY CASE BASIS ONLY.
WE NEED TO PURSUE AND EJECT FROM THIS NATION, PEOPLE WHO OVER-STAY THEIR VISAS.
AND WE NEED TO REQUIRE AN AMERICAN SPONSOR, WHO IS HELD FINANCIALLY AND CRIMINALLY ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL VISA APPLICANTS.
AS FOR ENDING ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION:
WE NEED A SECURE BORDER --- AKA THE WALL.
WE NEED TO CLOSE THE LEGAL LOOPHOLES, THAT ALLOW ILLEGALS, TO SIMPLY WALK UP TO AN AGENT, AND SAY THE "MAGIC WORD" – ASYLUM - AND THEY'RE IN OUR HOUSE.
WE NEED TO END CATCH AND RELEASE.
