We started exploring the followers networks of some of the newly-created accounts that pushed the #ImpeachmentBackfire hashtag, and ran into a group of accounts tweeting "#us #2020" accompanied by memes of widely varying political stance. #FridayFeeling

@ZellaQuixote We found 41 accounts with prolific #us #2020 image tweets. All were created Nov 2nd/3rd 2019, have similar schedules and similar names, and use Trump, the US flag, or the Statue of Liberty as their avatar. They appear to tweet via the Twitter website, but we suspect automation.
@ZellaQuixote This botnet retweets a variety of prominent accounts from both ends of the political spectrum, with @GovMikeHuckabee and @BernieSanders as the most frequent choices.

@ZellaQuixote #ImpeachmentBackfire has been around for months at low volume, so it's difficult to be sure who kicked it into high gear (possibly @larryelder?) @w_terrence is the most-retweeted account, but traffic took off ~3 hours before his tweet, and most of it wasn't RTs of major accounts.
@ZellaQuixote @larryelder @w_terrence Obscure accounts that spammed the hashtag (generally by retweeting dozens of other accounts' #ImpeachmentBackfire tweets) make up a sizable portion of the trend - just 20 of 20519 accounts (0.1%) tweeted 1436 of the 36799 tweets (4%). Many of these accounts look a bit odd. . .
