1. Guy on @MSNBC said @JoeBiden can't make an "electability" argument because he's struggled in #Iowa. To me, electability" relates to the race with Trump. Emerging from Democratic Party primary gauntlet where a third want a Socialist, I call "survivability." Money's the issue.
2. For people voting in the #NewHampshirePrimary, if @JoeBiden fades then you may see candidate not even on you #NHprimary ballot move to the top. Biden's loss will be @MikeBloomberg's gain in his push to solidify @theDemocrats' moderates.
3. So by torching Biden during the #ImpeachmentTrial @POTUS stands to lose a weak funder in Biden to run against a real Gazillionaire in @MikeBloomberg? Whose big idea was that plan? @IvankaTrump? @EricTrump? @RudyGiuliani? @parscale? 😎

1/ We're nonpartisan, and we don’t usually weigh in on polarizing matters like #impeachment bc there are hundreds of orgs doing so already. It's simply not our role. However, this is a historic moment. It is serious, and it's linked to our work to fix our corrupt political system
2/ No matter what we say about the #impeachmenttrial, we’re going to upset ppl one side or the other bc today, ppl on the right and the left live in two completely different realities. We get our news from different channels, and each side gets a different set of “facts”.
3/ As a result, many people think Dems used the #impeachment trial as a bogus ploy to gain political advantage. Many others think #Republicans abandoned their sworn oath to protect the #Constitution and voted to protect their party at the expense of the people and the rule of law

NEWS: "Censure would allow this body to unite across party lines," @Sen_JoeManchin says.

He sees no path to 67 votes to remove and Trumps' behavior cannot be allowed.

"I am truly struggling with this decision," he says.

#ImpeachmentTrial
@Sen_JoeManchin "It is the legacy of this institution" senators should be worried about, he said.
More Manchin points:
1. Trump pressuring Zelensky was "just simply wrong."
2. "Preposterous" POTUS attorneys argued anything good for Trump, personally, is good for the country.

#ImpeachmentTrial
@Sen_JoeManchin @JoeManchinWV stressed in his floor speech: "I remain undecided."

Rep. Val Demings throws shade at John Bolton: "According to reports about Bolton's account -- soon to be available, if not to this body, then in bookstores near you -- POTUS also unsuccessfully tried to get Bolton to call [Zelensky] to ensure he would meet with Giuliani."
Nice touch by Trump's lawyers to add scary-sounding music to this video montage
Here's Jay Sekulow omitting context & misleadingly suggesting @MarkSZaidEsq's "coup" tweet was meant to signal his intention to overthrow Trump, when in fact Zaid was responding to another tweet about Sally Yates being fired for refusing to enforce Trump's travel ban

2) I considered the #ImpeachmentTrial would be used for an INJECTION of Deep State crimes.

However it is possible this was just a catalyst to build attention for the most appropriate venue to expose these Deep State crimes.

A priming as you will.
3) Perahps it was always all about using the constitutionally most suitable format/mechanism which is The United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

This is otherwise known as the Senate Judiciary Committee.

🧐Trump is being acquitted -- in FIRST Senate impeachment trial in history w no witness testimony -- on premise the House process was unfair.

(THREAD on this misleading premise)👉

1. 17 witnesses w knowledge of Trump withholding of Ukraine aid testified. The GOP called, and got
, Amb Volker & Tim Morrison.

2. Trump blocked anyone in position to exonerate him & R's made no attempt to call them: Mulvaney, Blair, Pompeo.

3. The GOP witnesses denied -- the whistleblower & Hunter Biden -- have nothing to offer on Trump's motives in withholding Ukraine aid
They are immaterial. Sen. Cornyn, T-Texas, even said this about Hunter.

4. On scorn for Schiff for failing to "do his job" and call Bolton. House Dems badly wanted to call him but Bolton wouldn't do it. He said .. take me to court. It wasn't until EARLY JAN that he agreed.

Thank you #KamalaHarris for being a powerful voice of clarity and for justice during this #ImpeachmentTrial
Must watch remarks from #Kamala as she brilliantly lays out the facts about this #GOPCoverup in a way that everyone can understand what's at stake. Here is part 1/2.
Here #KamalaHarris does her own mini-prosecution explaining how the GOP co-conspirators are subverting the Constitution by allowing Trump to solicit foreign interference in our country. She also makes it clear: there can be no acquittal without a fair trial. #GOPCoverup (Pt 2/2)

No witnesses? One of the most powerful messages coming out of this #ImpeachmentTrial is the media disinterest in reporting facts and determination to perpetuate a false narrative spun by the House managers.
All of the sworn testimony from House impeachment inquiry from 17 witnesses, as well as the documents received, was available and used in the #ImpeachmentTrial by both the House and POTUS. It is simply false to claim that there were no witnesses.
Indeed, House managers claim that the evidence supporting conviction is "overwhelming" directly contradicts their claim about "no witnesses." Both can't be true. No wonder the American people are wary of anti-Trump animus and media bias.

The impeachment trial of @realDonaldTrump to be the first in U.S. history to have no witnesses.

@SenAlexander of Tennessee: Jan. 30, 2020

“The question then is not whether the president did it," he said of Trump withholding aid to Ukraine needed to defend itself from Russia.
@realDonaldTrump @SenAlexander but whether the United States Senate or the American people should decide what to do about what he did. I believe that the Constitution provides that the people should make that decision in the presidential election that begins in Iowa on Monday. "

#ImpeachmentTrial
@realDonaldTrump @SenAlexander to be clear, even if Murkowski becomes a 3rd GOP vote for witnesses, it would be a 50-50 draw, so just a failure.

Justice Roberts would have to step in and that's totally not expected.

the vast majority of Rs don't want witnesses and they want the trial over by tonight.

3) As we are all aware Chief Justice John Roberts refused to read out the name of the alleged “whistleblower” during Q+A at the Senate #ImpeachmentTrial.

Indeed this occurred when no reference or context referred in any way to a whistleblower.

This was very perplexing to many.

BREAKING: Lamar Alexander won't vote to hear witnesses or see documents in the Senate #ImpeachmentTrial, #Maddow reports.

@LamarAlexander's hero was Howard Baker. You sir, sadly, are no Howard Baker.
@LamarAlexander 🚨Republican @SenAlexander uses Dershowitz's 👑argument to justify no witnesses, acknowledging Trump did it all: "There is no need for more evidence to prove something that has already been proven and that does not meet the US Constitution’s high bar for an impeachable offense."
@LamarAlexander @SenAlexander There it is >> Republican Lamar Alexander is OK with a sham impeachment trial w/o witnesses b/c he prefers a lawless criminal in the White House to a Democrat. And he's a "swing" Republican! Shame on him and the rest of these fools lucky enough never to have lived under dictators

@JaySekulow firm paid by @GOP to defend @realDonaldTrump appears to exist only inside a rented mailbox near the White House. But he and 5 other #impeachmenttrial lawyers are paid through non-profit @ACLJ, which is barred from partisan work. My latest @AP apnews.com/9d2ed80ca912d1…
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP The Pennsylvania Avenue box appears to be the sole physical location of the Constitutional Litigation and Advocacy Group, a for-profit corporation co-owned by @JaySekulow. The firm has no website and is not listed in national legal directories. The DC Bar has no record of it.
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP But a half dozen lawyers employed by the non-profit ACLJ are named in recent Senate legal briefs as members of Trump’s defense team — including one of Sekulow’s sons. The ACLJ, as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, is barred under IRS rules from engaging in partisan activities.

116th question from @SenatorCollins et al. to both: are there circumstances in which president could investigate political rival not already under investigation?

@SenatorCollins @RepAdamSchiff Here's @RepAdamSchiff arguing in the @washingtonpost last year that the Obama administration's investigation (later found to have lied to FISA court) of then-candidate Trump was necessary: washingtonpost.com/opinions/adam-…

@SenatorCollins @RepAdamSchiff @washingtonpost Philbin: Trump asked about a situation in which @JoeBiden fired a prosecutor. Regardless, yes! -- a situation could arise. It would be in our national interest to have info about bad overseas conduct by candidate, even non-criminal.

John Roberts declines to answer Rand Paul's question, presumably because he was trying to out the whistleblower or some such. Things off to a great start during Thursday's installment of the #ImpeachmentTrial.
Rep. Crow points out that if what Trump's lawyers said last night is true -- he held-up Ukraine aid privately so as not to send a "signal" to Russia -- then there should be a paper trail documenting how that decision was reached. But Trump and his lawyers haven't provided that.
The "Democrats are subverting the 2020 election" talking point Sekulow pushes here is extremely disingenuous because Trump was impeached for trying to cheat in the 2020 election.

1) There are two possible outcomes for the #Impeachment vote.

#POTUS #MAGA #WWG1WGA #QAnon

In other words the vote on Friday evening (1/31/20 ET) will be 56-44 with an immediate acquittal.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ➡️ 56

Manchin, Sinema and Jones vote #POTUS
3) Option B -

This involves a 56-44 vote FOR witnesses.

The same Reps (53) + 3 Dems make up the numbers.

How is this possible?

92nd question, from Indiana senators to both sides: why is the ICIG transcript from House being kept secret?

@RepAdamSchiff: no real answer. Said could have included bribery, but that "abuse of power" is "HIGHEST" crime. [Absurd: where in Constitution?]

(1/3)

#ImpeachmentTrial
@RepAdamSchiff This is literally nuts.

@RepAdamSchiff is trying to argue that "abuse of power" is not only included in "High Crimes and Misdemeanors," but that it is a HIGHER crime than "Treason." Or "Bribery."

The Constitution did not mention "abuse of power."

Remember how, after the emotion of the Kavanaugh hearings in the fall of 2018, conventional wisdom was that it fired up conservatives?

Well, the math doesn’t show that. Let me explain this and how it relates to the #ImpeachmentTrial and the coming election.
In 2018, in terms of raw votes, Democrats won:

17,537,638 more Senate votes.
9,710,275 more House votes.
2,800,876 more Governor votes.

We all know the House flipped.
The Democrats were defending 24 seats versus the GOP’s 9 and so the GOP picked up two Senate seats.
But all of the anger that many conservatives felt after the Kavanaugh confirmation hearing culminated in ... 30 million more votes for Democratic candidates for the Senate, House and Governorships than the number for Republican candidates.

That’s AFTER the GOP base was fired up?
