For railfans and enthusiasts, this is the photograph of a freshly welded rail. The rail was welded yesterday and is ready for the grinding process to smoothen the rough edges. This photo was taken at the Mecheri station, about 30 km from Salem. #IndianRailways #welding @sambitlnt
These two pieces are the clay clamps which hold the two edges of the rails together. Thereafter the welding portion in the steel bucket with a layer of clay is lit and the portion melts achieving a temperature of 1400 deg C, which is poured in between the clamps to weld the rail.
The welding portion contains a mixture of magnetic ferrous oxide and aluminium, which melts at high temperature. Clay is used as it is heat resistant. After the molten portion is poured in and dries, the clamps are broken (broken clamp is seen in photo) and the rails are welded!

Did you know when all eyes were on the Budget what @nsitharaman did to the #IndianRailways "budget"? She allotted the princely sum of Rs 1000 each to 274 projects in 2020-21! Just about enough to buy 10 packs of my cigarettes!
@nsitharaman Of these, 132 are for new line projects, 40 gauge conversion projects and 102 are track doubling projects. Every budget has been known to indulge in some tokenism, but this takes it to an entirely new level! Some focus on infra, this!

#Cabinet approves Organisational Restructuring of #IndianRailways Railways

Existing eight Group A services of the Railways will be reorganised into a Central Service called Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS)
Unification of services will end 'departmentalism', promote smooth working of Railways, expedite decision making, create a coherent vision for organisation and promote rational decision making
Railway board will no longer be organised on departmental lines, and replaced with leaner structure organised on functional lines

Railway Board to be headed by Chairman Railway Board (CRB) who will be the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with 4 Members and some Independent Members

After unnecessarily changing the origin of the Yeshwantpur-Kannur Express to Banaswadi, #IndianRailways is annoying with the timing of the train.
It seems the YPR-CNR express has an extraordinary arrangement to come late every day. Just like yesterday, On Monday as well the authorities made passengers to wait for two hours in the chilling night in an under developed station. @RailMinIndia @PiyushGoyal @PiyushGoyalOffc
We reached the station at 7.45 pm for the train scheduled at 8.20 pm. At 8.40, they announced that the train is "running" late by an hour. No sign of train even at 9.40 pm. @GMSRailway @SWRRLY
