SOLDIER PROFILE – BRIGADIER GENERAL CHARLES YOUNG, FIRST BLACK U.S. ARMY COLONEL

Despite the racism of his time, COL Young forged a stellar career in the late-19th to early-20th century U.S. Army, although promotion to BG was withheld from him for racist reasons.

Born into slavery in 1864, Young grew up in Ohio and attended an integrated high school, where he excelled. He attended West Point, becoming the third Black cadet to graduate despite the hostility of many of his peers.

25-26 JUNE 1876 - BATTLE OF LITTLE BIGHORN - Indian Wars (Great Sioux War)

At sunrise on 25 June Lieutenant Colonel George A. Custer's Arikara and Crow scouts reported a large Indian village was in the Little Bighorn Valley. Image

Honest question to @sendahms and other @mngop & @MinnesotaDFL legislators. If I am teaching the Civil War to 7th graders, how much time should I devote? What key events, people, concepts should I discuss? How should I assess? Remember, I have 50 minute class periods. #mnleg
I'll take it another step further, using the same parameters?
How much time, ... etc. should I devote to the #WWI? Who do I include, exclude? What outside resources can I bring in and which must I avoid? Remember these are 13 year olds and we have 173 school days.
Repeat this for the following:

What battles do we focus on? How do we build context? Outcomes?

Gegenwart. Längerer Thread zu Hauser, #Fleisch & den #Schlachthöfen v. #Chicago. /1

Just flabbergasted that @MaxBoot would use "our" #IndianWars as a model for US foreign policy

Why winning and losing are irrelevant in Syria and Afghanistan wapo.st/2G0a4qi?tid=ss…
To start with, the phrase "our Indian Wars, which lasted roughly 300 years (circa 1600-1890)" contains numerous misguided assumptions.
Who is the "we" being referenced in "our Indians Wars"? By selecting a starting date of 1600, near the beginning of European colonization but long before the US ever existed, he can only mean "we white people."
