Having been to many sparsely attended tests, the sparse attendance and empty stands at the Modi Stadium stand out for me as particularly bizarre.

Guy decided to get rid of a Sardar Patel name and named it after himself.

And yet, no one will come.

No one ever comes.
"the stands look empty cos it is a big stadium. In the old Motera, this crowd would look respectable."

What was the make and model of the gun they held to Modi's head to force him to give his name to a 1.3 lakh capacity stadium in cricket-indifferent Amdavad?

#INDvAUS
Anyone who actually knows anything about Indian cricket, unlike shehzada Jay Shah, knows that the only venues where you get a reliable test crowd are Bombay madras Calcutta Bangalore and maybe Delhi.

As we would say in Marathi, life fell inside vessel and the horse bathed in the Ganges.

Very classy of the Aussies to applaud the century.

Listening to Agarkar, Gavaskar, Manjrekar together on Hindi commentary, it is not at all difficult to guess that Manjrekar is the only one married to a Marathi woman. 😂😂

Shuddha Marathi mein Hindi he speaks that Sunny or Ajit could never get away with. 🤣🤣

#INDvAUS
I fully support Manjrekar Hindi btw.

We Marathi people are 100 million strong with 500+ years of Hindi/Urdu in our history.

No one can tell us our Hindi is any less authentic than bisht Hindi. 💪
And yeah, in Marathi Hindi, we say tu instead of tum, if you're one of the aap-hum people who choose that as your hill to die on.

Not paying full attention but did somebody just pull an “I haven’t seen much of him” on Steve Smith?! Wonderful. #INDvAUS #BorderGavaskarTrophy
“This Kohli chap. What’s his go?”
“This Stokes fellow? Is he a bowler or a batter? A bit of both? Huh. Good for him.”

This is the first time in my life that I'm rooting for Australia to beat India in a test match! 😳
#INDvAUS
That's not anti India. Anti BCCI. Because of the lurid spectacle they did, making it all about him.

Also I genuinely think 2-2 would be a fair result for this series. We've bashed Australia in 3 straight series. I wanna see the old Aussie fightback.

I started off thinking 4-0 to India, but the Aussie spinners of this generation have shown the grit and guile that none of the previous Aussie teams showed. Especially Lyon. Hugely fanboying at his growth as a bowler in the last few years. Him winning this test too would be nice.

Dear 2001 #IndvAus series,

We regret to inform you that you are no longer the most memorable story-filled emotion inducing series India has ever played.

Sincerely,
2021
Btw right after 2001, it wasn't instantly considered GOAT. Many of my uncles argued, justifiably, that 1986 England was still the best cos away. Only with passing years was 2001 was considered GOAT regardless of venue or even because of. Similarly this series will age well.
For me personally, nothing will ever match 2018 cos a series win in Australia was something I'd been hungry for since childhood. But I think just in terms of the legends and stories spawned over the years, this one, I think, will surpass 2001. It's overstuffed with drama.

This series is the most assured and relaxed I've seen Rohit Sharma in an away series. Far cry from 2013 South Africa where he looked just laughably bizarrely inept compared to Kohli, Pujara. Bizarre cos he's actually a good player of pace. Now he's starting to look it. #IndvAus
Please get a match winning century here, Ro. One hill I'm really really looking forward to vacate is the "Rohit does not belong in a full strength test XI outside India" hill. Do an Ivanisevic at Wimbledon type thing. #IndvAus
Could we implant Rohit with a chip where he sees all Australian kits as yellow and all indian including his as blue and some garish pink on the umpires? #IndvAus

This stopped being in "positive declaration" territory after the target crossed 250. Australia are gonna keep batting until Paine's fear of losing this match falls below a certain threshold. Which shows how much this young indian team has impressed. #IndvAus
Btw there is nothing wrong with not wanting to lose. Paine saw how even an extremely safe declaration at Sydney could have ended in a loss if Pant had stayed a little while more. So can't fault him for not feeling safe at 275 with this much time left, even factoring rain in.
Paine has simultaneously been the luckiest and unluckiest captain in this series. Lucky to be given the weakest Indian team in years, that too on Aussie pitches. Unlucky because the Indian team doesn't seem to know that and the series is still alive. #INDvAUS

This is the happiest I've been with Rohit Sharma in an overseas test series. With players missing, he is objectively best XI (unlike past series). He's done a difficult job seeing off some lethal opening spells. Crucial in the Sydney draw. And pretty decent here too. #IndvAus
It's too late in his career for him to be counted on par with this generation's big 3 (Kohli-Pujara-Rahane) in terms of overall test record. But he could still play a Lehmann or Martyn type role in the next few years if he's lucky with injuries to others like this tour.
A realistic expectation from Rohit Sharma in tests outside India would be like a cross between Akash Chopra and Sadagoppan Ramesh. A nice 30-odd, maybe a cute fifty, but mainly, see off the opening spells. Don't expect centuries. Those he will get in India for sure.
