2/ Definitions first.
Issuer is broadly referred to as any entity like a bank, NBFC or fintech which has issued payments instruments like credit cards, debit cards, pre paid cards, wallets, EMI cards etc.
Merchants could be online or offline, large, mid-sized or small.

3/ Work on this thesis got triggered because of a few reasons:
Uptime monitoring dashboard for the production GrapheneOS services is available at nodeping.com/reports/status…. Alerts are also posted publicly in our #infra:grapheneos.org Matrix room when a check is added, starts failing or stops failing. It's often not really an outage.
For example, today, the TLS checks for attestation.app detected the certificate would expire in less than 15 days. This ended up being because the removal of a legacy subdomain several weeks ago broke automatic certbot removal. It can do much more advanced checks though.
For example, our "matrix.grapheneos.org HTTPS Federation API" check fetches matrix.grapheneos.org/_matrix/key/v2… and makes sure that it contains "server_name"\s*:\s*"grapheneos.org". We also have one for the Matrix client API. Checks also also be set to roam around internationally.

Above is a monthly chart of #Sensex. It goes through an alternating #greedandfear cycle of 8 years. Sensex moves up in greed phase and consolidates in fear phase. It was up 469% in greed phase of 1992. was up only 20% from 1992 to 2000. From 2000 to 2008 it was up 271%.
In fear phase of 2008 to 2016 it was up only 48%. #Sensex has entered greed phase in 2016 and will stay there till 2024. So far its up more than 50%. But the story doesnt end there. The sectors which move up during these phases also go through a cycle.

Been doing a bit of traveling around Nigeria (more to come), seeing ongoing infrastructure projects. Impressive sights. What I find most intriguing is how unaware people are, even of projects near them. Part of issue is prob that we just have grown up not expecting these things.
There are still people who will argue that nothing is happening re #LagosIbadanRail. For some its partisan blindness (as the Yoruba say, you can't wake a man pretending to be asleep).
But for many others its just genuine disbelief. Because they haven't seen it, it can't exist.

Another striking thing is THE SHEER SCALE of what needs to be done. Even after Buhari's 8 years,even with all the focus on #Infra, there will still be a lot to be done. Because for much of the time in our history(when we had money!) we didn't do these things. The DEFICIT is much.
