[1/🧵] I believe @bob_way has already gone way overboard with #ILP and all the complexities of explaining all that needs to be expressed. ❤️

Still, let me make a few remarks on the following topics 👇
• Infrastructure layers of #ILP
#XRPL Payment Channels
• "Ledger Graphs"
[2/17] — Infrastructure Layers of #Interledger

When it comes to the most recent version of the open #ILPv4 suite in universal mode (high volume, low value payments), the layering is as follows:

1⃣ Application
2⃣ Transport
3⃣ Interledger (Core Layer)
4⃣ Link
5⃣ Ledger
[3/17] — 1⃣ Application Layer —

This is the suite's first layer, and it contains the following protocol:
➡️ #SPSP (Simple Payment Setup Protocol)

📝 This is for #identifiers, which are comparable to email addresses and are used to make addresses readable.

I wanted to thank @bob_way once more for this 4 hour Twitter space marathon.

Today I realized that I am still in the early stages of learning about #ILP and the #XRPL.

[1/12] To understand what else is needed to create a financial future based on #blockchain technology, just consider what the #Interledger #Protocol was NOT designed to do. 😉

[A #Thread 🧵] Source: https://www.w3.org/2016/07/01-ILP-Update-2016-07-01.
[2/12] 🤔 What problem does #ILP genuinely address?

Just like the #internet will never agree on a single #protocol to fix everything, the world will never agree on a single #blockchain or ledger [#DLT].

What must be resolved is:
🔹 Addressing
🔹 Fragmentation The Interledger
[3/12] ❗️ To make it easy and #ELI5-friendly here is everything in one picture:

When Alice wants to send money to @bob_way, #ILP will perform all the heavy lifting so she doesn't have to worry about #wallet addresses (#PubKeys) and the like. Source: https://www.w3.org/2016/07/01-ILP-Update-2016-07-01.

Warning:

This is very technical information for people interested in DLT and banking payment upgrades.

Not for the faint of heart.

I've seen that before and the common denominator was @Interledger #ILP #fintech #payments #settlement

Everyone knows the term cryptocurrency

But few understand what blockchain technology is and how it's revolutionizing industries across the globe

A list of information on why you should research blockchain technology

--Thread-- Image
1. Blockchain is the underlying technology that cryptocurrencies are built upon.⛓

Yes, it's more than a digital currency.

Blockchain / DLT (distributed ledger technology) provides an immutable, digital ledger that is always updating with transactions happening in real-time. 📖 ImageImage
2. What are the benefits of using Blockchain or DLT?🤔

Check out the pictures below to see how DLT technology will revolutionize industries. 👇

Shout out to @MikeQuindazzi for his awesome benefits infographic

1/ The problem:

“With today’s internet of information you can’t store, move, transact value without a powerful intermediary. And that’s what blockchains solve”

Quoted by @dontapscott a leader in the decentralized blockchain revolution Image
@dontapscott 2/ Before blockchain

The internet had a problem with transferring $ value peer to peer

The only 2 options for sending money were:

1. Send $ using a cross border payment via bank transfers
2. Use a 3rd party and trust a stranger with private information

Lets dive into those👇 Image

Reasons why I believe the legacy cross-border payments system is broken and the future solution to the problem.
For example, if you send $150+ dollars from Canada to Japan
The bank charges you a $50 transaction fee. (which is expensive to third world countries)
Second thing they tell you is money doesn't move on weekends or holidays..
So you ask when will the other side get their money?
Sir, we do not have end-to-end tracking on cross-border payments. It's up to the receiving party to let you know when they get it.
What? It's 2021...
We can send an email across borders instantly why not money?
The answer is legacy swift system uses the correspondent banking system.
Your payment travels through multiple banks ledgers, going through the clearing process which can take days. KYC + AML processes. ImageImage

The World Bank recently tested several #blockchain #interoperability methods.

They mention 4 approaches:
1. Oracles and Notaries
2. Sidechains/Relays
3. Time-bound Asset Locking and Release
4. Application Layer Adaptors Image
Mentioned in the approaches:
1. Oracles & Notaries ( $LINK )
2. Sidechains/Relays/Value Transfer ( $DOT and #interledger)
3. Time-bound Asset Locking and Release (HTLC)
4. Application Layer Adaptors/API Approach (DAML smart-contracts & $QNT @Overledger any-to-any blockchain app) ImageImage
The World Bank tested 3 of the 4 approaches:
2⃣- Interledger
3⃣ - HTLC
4⃣ - API approach for a *non-smart contract* Procure-to-Pay resource

It sounds like they used @quant_network @Overledger in test number 4, as a non-smart contract-specific data service was created. Image

You have to think about this. #Ripple has worked with 50 Central Banks. If they launch their CBDCs' on the ledger, that eats through XRP supply, massively, per David Schwartzs' video 9-10 months ago. There would be no reason why he would provide this content if it wasn't coming.
Open your eyes, and keep a myopic view point to a minimal. "When" (Noted in #WEF20: Tharman Shanmugaratnam: "That doesn't necessarily mean the public sector is going to be the provider of the infrastructure OR THE DIGITAL TOKENS."
they launch their #CBDCs' on the #XRP Ledger, they will have "settlement" capabilities of 4 seconds. They will have the ability to settle cross-border payments in 4 seconds, on top of that, they will have the ability for atomic swaps with #InterLedger.
