I’ll post this every year until the time free is more than the time taken away.

9 years ago today, VA Dept of Corrections released a man who had given well over half his life to the system. He went in as a child and grew into a man.
Denied parole 17 times for nature of the crime. He was set up for failure but persevered. He was a hard-headed, fearless child who looked up to grown men who were in the streets. There aren't any excuses for doing wrong; he wears his wrongs and lives with them every day.
The most important thing in life is that he's learned from his mistakes... he took longer than most to get it, but he's turned his life around. He says to me all the time that just having the right people around you makes all the difference.

📣Excited to share our paper is now *published* in @Nature "Measuring human capital using global learning data" w/ Djankov @PennyG_Yale @hpatrinos

nature.com/articles/s4158…

We present learning data in 164 countries from 2000-2017 + explore key Qs in the human capital literature👇
The Harmonized Learning Outcomes (HLO) data is a public good, publicly available, and will be regularly updated on the @WorldBank data catalog:
datacatalog.worldbank.org/dataset/harmon…
We show using the HLO that even as enrollments have gone up and achieved high levels globally, learning levels are low and progress is slow. This gap in human capital formation has been referred to in the literature and global education community as ‘the learning crisis'

How do we re-imagine our Educational Institutions?

History is important...#PostcardsFromALAIGBO

An old but very relevant piece by Obi Nwakanma

1/ "As a result of Azikiwe’s own ideas of the university, he pushed for the establishment of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka,.."
2/ "Zik passed the charter of the University through the Eastern Nigeria House in 1955. The University of Nigeria, Nsukka was established in 1955, but it opened its gates for the first 280 students on Oct 7, 1960, just one week on the attainment of Nigeria’s independence..."
3/ "Aside from Azikiwe, the next most important figure in the establishment of University of Nigeria was Dr. I.U. Akpabio, Minister for education in the government Azikiwe led in the East. Akpabio & Zik traveled around seeking funds across the world for the proper establishment."

1 of 3/ Dear Southerners especially Ndigbo,

The first myth/misconception/conditioned belief that you have to let go of is this idea that "the North is the reason who the South is under-developed or failing to make a leap into the 4th industrial revolution"

2 of 3/ NOBODY is stopping your Southern Governors especially those in ALAIGBO, from investing in Quality/Accessible/Inclusive/Affordable Education/Healthcare. No one is stopping them from including STEM & scaling it region-wide, or fixing urban planning, waste mgt & state roads.
3 of 3/ Are there areas that the FG controls which should be improved upon and/or decentralized? Yes. Like Security, Ports, Airports etc...However, there are many areas State Governments control, which would make a huge difference. Look inwards and hold your Governors accountable
