Thread on Rolling Returns.
There are 2 ways to measure a fund or index's performance.

1. Trailing returns - calculate point-to-point returns and annualizing them.
2. Rolling returns.

(1)
A rolling return is the average of a series of returns over a long period of time.
It is like a daily SIP for a certain interval & then taking an average of the series of returns.

The average of these returns is the rolling 3-year returns, rolled daily.

(2) Image
It is an effective measure to gauge the performance of a fund's performance & not biased towards any particular period of time.

Though there is no guarantee of repetition of the past performance, we can rely on this method if we evaluate the performance over a long span.

Does increase in Inflation & hence interest rates lead to a fall in equity? While theoretically yes, practically the last 20 years of data shows otherwise

Please ‘re-tweet’ 🧵& help us educate more retail investors

#Investing
Lets start with basic, y does inflation ⬆️?
Most feel bcoz of higher demand & lower supply but that’s nt the only factor. Imagine there is a shortage of laptops wrt the demand, but there is no liquidity in the market (people don’t have monies) will the price of laptop ⬆️? No
So, Inflation takes place because the demand supply situation is accompanied by high liquidity, people have the monies to spend and hence the price goes up. Inflation does not take place only because of the demand supply gap (3/n)

☣️1/ Timeline proving UNC been constructing SARS #coronavirus chimeras since AT LEAST 2006 (!), bent on producing live attenuated vaccine (or offing us all, depends on how you see it). Thank you, Dr. #Fauci!

Please hold "Pandora's box" of public discussion wide open on this one.
2/ 2006:
a. Look at "we need a LAV because lab leaks of epidemic strains happen"
b. List of vaccine problems, including ADE (mentioning 1992 pub on fCoV)
c. Construction of pandemic-level chimeric icGDO3-S "challenge virus" with spike from 2003 SARS case
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
3/ This lab has a history of leaks. Like SARS mice escapes. Extremely humanised BLT-L were invented c. 2019, but we just don't know what those "simpler" 2014 mice were carrying - killler chimeras or live vaccine variants. Or if lab staff got infected.

1⃣ The things that I look for are:
(a) the long-term trend,
(b) the current chart pattern, and
(c) picking a good spot to buy or sell. If you want to read the behaviour of the market, ask yourself…
(a) What’s the long-term trend?
(b) If any chart pattern is forming?
#trading
(c) Finding areas of value?
(d) Who’s more powerful, buyers or sellers?

Personally for me I trade like to trade bullish continuation patterns like Flags, Ascending Triangle, Rectangles, Penants, Falling Wedge in an already established uptrend.

So today I was watching Dragon's Den and this was an interesting one. There are several problems here:

1) Pitch was long, basically all exposition, and failed to provide the necessary info about the business or its performance (Metrics)
2/4)

2) The pitch was made to investors who weren't the target customers

3) With a Stanford or any Business School graduate, investors would expect a degree of business acumen, which shockingly just did not exist.
3/4 )

Most investors will simply not invest until the idea being pitched solves a problem they face/see.

This also brings the point forward that grades and schools aren't everything. Sure they're good to have, but you will always need real-world experience.

Some Financial Rules

Rule of 72 (Double Your Money)

No. of yrs required to double your money at a given rate, U just divide 72 by interest rate

Eg, at 8% interest, divide 72 by 8 and get 9 yrs..so money 💰will double in 9 yes.

At 6%, it will be 12 yrs.

Will continue.
1/n
Rule of 114

No. of years required to triple your money at a given rate, U just divide 114 by interest rate.

For example, if you want to know how long it will take to triple your money at 12%, divide 114 by 12 and get 9.5 years

At 6% interest rate, it will take 19yrs.

2/n
100 minus your age rule

This rule is used for asset allocation. Subtract your age from 100 to find out, how much of your portfolio should be allocated to equities

Age 30

Equity : 70%
Debt : 30%

Age 60

Equity : 40%
Debt : 60%

*Pearls of financial wisdom* 💰💰

1) Bonds are for storing wealth and equities are for creation of wealth.

2) In my opinion, the biggest asset one can have is zero debt.

3) The greatest discipline in personal finance is living below your means.

4) As Ben Carlson says, emotions cannot be back tested. That’s why past bear market always looks like opportunities and future ones scary.

5) Early financial independence and early retirement are completely different. To me, the former is a blessing and the latter is a curse.
6) Don’t think how it would have been if you’ve started 10 years ago. Start today and visualise how you would feel 10 years from now.

7) The neighbourhood we live determines our life style & spending. Need to be careful in choosing one which matches our goals and personality.
