šŸ§µ I spent a couple days last week in Benton County, just west of Linn County, where people are still reeling from the #derecho.

If you thought Cedar Rapids was livid about lack of media coverage, let me tell you...Iā€™m sorry I wasnā€™t there sooner.

Driving thru Benton County, in some areas it seemed nearly every farm was significantly damaged, horizon dotted by blue tarps, shattered trees, crumpled grain bins, flattened corn. And thatā€™s after a solid two weeks of Herculean cleanup efforts.

As Steve Meyer, head off Benton County Emergency Management Commission told me, the devastation is ā€œnumbingā€.

At least with a tornado you drive in & out of the damage area, he says. With the #IowaDerecho ā€˜it just never endsā€™.

People are hard at work repairing this apartment complex this morning after the #derecho.

I think this neighborhood is technically over the line in Marion city limits, but on the NE side of Cedar Rapids.

Iā€™m getting concerned that the damage from a storm system called ā€œderechoā€ isnā€™t getting much national news coverage. THIS MATTERS. Why? Money and help follow news coverage. This isnā€™t a few trees down and the inconvenience of power out. Itā€™s like a tornado hit whole counties.
We had the winds of a category two hurricane. In Iowa. People are begging for help to refill their oxygen, to lift power lines off their driveways so they can leave their homes and search for food, most of the city of Cedar Rapids cannot dial 911 for help.
When the flood of 2008 hit we led every major networkā€™s evening national newscasts. Meteorologists from the Weather Channel and the main networks walked in waders through our swollen Cedar River.
