Music, mental health and the struggle to connect -…
It’s a changing time to be a musician- albums don’t make much money, record labels are not as free with advances, & supporting yourself & paying rent is more expensive than ever.

But music is important- it can empathise with you, encourage you, & help you face the day.
No-one deserves a living just because they put on a guitar, of course not, but for people who do, members of the music community are 3 times more likely to experience depression than the general public. This is a shocking figure.

I deleted a tweet about feeling blue. It’s a valid feeling that we all have sometimes. But I didn’t want to show that side of myself, b/c of the stigma.

But then I thought about it & I’m 100% sure others have days like this. It’s just that we all go around pretending we’re ok.
We force wellness &resilience as if it’s not okay to feel UNwell. I’m here to tell you that even successful people who seem to have their shit together struggle with depression. And that’s okay. There shouldn’t be such a stigma to talking about how we really feel.#ItsOkNotToBeOk
If you are feel sad or depressed it doesn’t mean you are broken or weak; It means you’re human.
