The latest victim of the growing hate for all things related to #Dharmic faiths. After attacking or co-opting all number of #Hindu traditions, it's now the turn of a micro-minority : the #Jain faith and being #vegetarian in general. SouthAsian vegetarians be warned! 1/n
#Caste
During the public comments section of the @SeattleCouncil meeting on 2/14, supporters of the proposed #Caste ordinance turned their ire on the "militant vegetarianism" of #Jains. Hear the sound byte to understand the outright hate being mainstreamed!
Ironically the long and ancient tradition of #vegetarianism among SOME #Hindus, #Jains, #Sikhs and #Buddhists is under fire-even as western society as a whole discovers the benefits of a #plantbased diet and #MeatLessMonday proliferates. 3/n

The newly transformed Japanese Jains even follow the Annual #Jain festival Pajjusan, during which they fast for 8 days (atthai) by merely consuming warm water.

However, his primary queen Shantala Devi remained a devout Jain & built a number of artistic Jain temples in the Hoysala Empire. The frequent attacks on #Jains by Vaishnavas eventually lead to migration of Jains from the capital Halebidu to places like Kalya, Sankighatta etc

Daulatabad fort, near Aurangabad, #Maharashtra

We know the fort for the Bharat Mata mandir or a Masjid but how many know this is actually an old #Jain temple?? 🤔

Deogiri/Devgiri is a historic fortified citadel located in Devagiri village, later renamed to Daulatabad.

#Thread ImageImageImageImage
Recently, while ASI was cleaning the fort, a cave temple was re-discovered that belonged to the #Jains. This site has been occupied since 100 BCE. Around 6th century CE, Devagiri emerged as an important upland, along caravan routes going towards western & southern India.
(2) ImageImageImageImage
The historical fortress was initially built around 1187 by the first Yadava king Bhillama V. It was the capital of the Yadava dynasty (9th-14th century CE). In 1327, Muhammad bin Tughluq of Delhi Sultanate transferred his capital to Devagiri & renamed it 'Daulatabad'

My visit to Qutub Minar, #Delhi in 2019. The whole place speaks volumes of temples that once stood there. It was thrilling to search & spot our Tirthankar carved on a pillar. The ceilings too clearly reveal the same architecture as in our #Jain temples
(1) ImageImageImageImage
Construction of Qutub Minar "victory tower" begun by Qutb-ud-din Aibak to mark his victory over Rajput Jains, was finally completed by Firoz Shah Tughlaq in 1368 AD. Apart from this, other structures include Quwwat ul-Islam Masjid, Alai Darwaza, Alai Minar & the Iron pillar
(2) ImageImageImage
Construction of the Quwwat ul-Islam masjid started in 1193 CE by Aibak. Acc to a Persian inscription on the inner eastern gateway, it was built with parts taken by destruction of 27 #Jain temples built during the reign of Tomaras & Prithviraj Chauhan.

Impalement of #jains in Madurai & around in 7-8th Century CE

This hidden piece of history is seen in paintings & sculptures in temples & literary sources in Tamil Nadu. Annual festivals are celebrated for victory against Samanars. Impalement sticks are found in some places.
(1)
Image
Image
It occurred during the time of a Jain Pandya King & Shaivite monk Sambandar who converted him. His queen Mangayarkkarasiyar & minister Kulachirai Nayanar both were staunch Shaivites. Koon Pandiyan had ordered the impalement of 8000 #Jains.
(2) ImageImage
Although the legend is still debated, temples have customs, sculptures & paintings of the massacre. During the annual festival of Meenakshi temple, effigies were impaled on sticks & taken around as part of a ritual called Samanar Madam Adakkal. The ritual was stopped in 1974.

Pre-12th century Someshwara temple, Abalur, #Karnataka was a #Jain temple

Ambaluru was an important centre of #Jainism in ancient times. Its influence started waning frm 12th century when a proponent of Shaivism Ekantada Ramaiah stood up against Jains.

Legend has it that he cut off his own head during a religious dispute with the #Jains & was brought back to life by Lord Shiva himself. The incident is narrated by an inscription of 1200 CE found here.

"Nutan Varsh Abhinandan"

We have heard of Vikram Samvat, Saka era, but how many #Indians know of one of the oldest calender system called Vir/Veer Nirvan Samvat?
Vir Nirvan Samvat is a calendar era beginning on 7th Oct 527 BCE. It commemorates Nirvan of Mahavir swami, the 24th #Jain Tirthankar. It is one of the oldest system of chronological reckoning which is still used by #Jains. On 21st Oct 1974, 2500th Nirvan Mahotsav was celebrated.
The earliest text to mention 527 BCE as the year of Lord Vardhaman Mahaveer's Nirvan is Yati Vrishabha's 'Tiloya Pannatti' (6th century CE). The relationship between the Veer & Saka era is given in 'Titthogali Painnaya' and 'Dhavalaa' by Acharya Virasena.

They are Jains.
Yes the forgotten and neglected jains of our society.
Sarak 🙌
This video is from orrisa .
Where our jain brothers are teaching them about jainism and reintroducing them with religious beliefs.
They don't eat nonveg or kand mool ,if u ask them why
Thread Cont.
Why they don't eat .
They say they don't know why but their ancestors also never ate it so even they don't.
Many sarak jains don't even use words like kaatna (cut) maarna etc.
These are the strong religious sentiments which r deeply coded into them
which is making them follow it
Their gotra is from the name of tirthankars,
parshwnath , dharmnath n etc.
In a way they from the same lineage of the tirthankars.
But with time they are all left behind totally neglected by Jain samaj..

उत्तम मार्दव ।
Supreme humility.

A mistake that makes you humble is better than an achievement that makes you Arrogant.
Such is the importance of being humble.
#दस_लक्षण #jains #Jainism #jain Image
Humility’ or ‘Not to be Proud’ is the character of this Dharma. To think that all my worldly glamour, my own body, higher caste, strength, worldly knowledge etc. will definitely destroy one or the other day then why to be proud of these?
Thus considering all the worldly possessions like a dream one becomes fully humble or modest to proceed long on the eternal path of liberation.

Those who think Hinduism and jainism are very alike, with no differences and is a part of it,
plz read this.
Jainism is Not a branch of Hinduism.
In Jainism, one definite path to attain liberation (moksha) is prescribed. The prescribed threefold path consists of the three jewels
of Jainism
(Right belief, Right knowledge, Right conduct).
In Hinduism, no one definite path to salvation is prescribed.
#JAINS #Jain #Jainism
According to Jain cosmology, the universe is eternal, it is neither created nor it can be destroyed.
In Hinduism, it is believed to by a creator, and destroyed by God, to be created again.
