Frederic G. Cassidy (10 Oct 1907 - 14 Jun 2000), Jamaican-American linguist and lexicographer, born 115 years ago today, in Kingston. Founder, Dictionary of American Regional English. Advocate for the #Jamaican language; pioneer of autonomous orthographies for creole languages. 
1961 Cassidy System, developed specifically for Jamaican, uses a phonemic system that closely reproduces the sound of the language; later adopted and modified by the Jamaican Language Unit (JLU) at the University of the West Indies.
