Decoding #ShaheenBaghStandoff . It started with AAP MLA #amanatullahkhan 's speech on December 15, 2019, following which announcements were made by loudspeakers to goad people to reach #JamiaMilia . Outsiders came there, hurled Molotov cocktails, stones on @DelhiPolice (1)
As #JamiaMilia simmered, politicians joined the game. Competitive politics between #amanatullahkhan & Congress' #AsifMohammad aggravated it. Then appeared older women & they occupied Road no 13 & both carriageways were blocked. Asif M Khan feared Amanatullah taking credit (2)
Amanatullah retreated for sometime, Asif Khan sat on Dharna & implored DCP Southeast to arrest him but he refused to play ball. #ShaheenBaghProtest kept growing with hidden hands supplying funds & food packs, tea, snacks, warm clothes, blankets were provided to protesters. (3)

It is not a question of a Hindu Muslim. Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the NRC will be made at the national level. What will happen in it? Will only Muslim people get hurt?

No date, no process has been decided yet. We have only the experience of Assam, where 13 lakh Hindus and 6 lakh Muslims / Adivasis could not prove their citizenship. The question is, why not?

Because everyone had to submit documents, documents before 1971 for NRC as evidence.
These evidences were:
1. Proof of the 1971 Voter List Man's Own or Mother's Name; OR
2. In 1951, ie code number of parents / grandparents etc. found in the NRC after partition.

My own position on #CAA2019 has been - it is sound in principle (read @pratimbose article👇) and nothing wrong constitutionally (as explained by none other than Harish Salve). But, I anticipate serious issues in implementation. Therefore, other than the #NorthEast #CABProtests /2
#CABPolitics e.g. in #Assam where it is a live issue (but religion agnostic as they are against all immigrants changing the demographics of the region) for the rest of India it is largely an academic issue. Therefore, #CABProtests in the name of “secularism” ill-conceived 3/n
3/n Besides, #CAA2019 has been passed by an act of Parliament and not by any Presidential Diktat. If it has to be undone - it cannot be through violence and vandalism. Those upholding the Constitutional values - must also adopt democratic means and not promote mobocracy #CAB 4/n

It's quite telling that the Indian Muslims, for the first time in the recent history of the country are out protesting in such large numbers. They know what they will get by doing this is not justice, but at best life long harassment, and at worst - bullets. #JamiaMilia
Lynchings, fake encounters, stereotyping, love jihad, ban on namaz in several public spaces, cow politics, Babri masjid judgement. For years now, the Indian Muslims have remained silent, and were apologetic about asserting their identity. Something's changed.
In no way is this going to be a repeat of 2012 Delhi gangrape when the protests led to change in the law. That was an issue that affected middle & upper middle class, relatively powerful people, living close to Delhi. This issue makes them sad, but doesn't shake them to action.
