This bill makes budget savings at the expense of people at risk of poverty.

It will 'save' the Gov $191 million over 12 months.

On average these changes will take $457 from #JobSeekers and $346 from people on Youth Allowance.

Since the #DobSeeker hotline was suggested months back, I've spoken to several people on the matter. Many don't seem to understand why it's a problem. So this thread will provide several examples on when made up people might need to say "No" to employers.
Example 1: a parent.
So the interview goes well and the employer decides they want this person to be their newest employ; they make a job offer. The parent says "well I have to look after my kid at those times, so can we discuss different times?"
They negotiate, parent says "no".
Example 1: continued.
Though it's a pretty decent reason for saying "no", they employer may still end up reporting example 1 to the #DobSeeker hotline for refusing a suitable job offer.

When I was 25, I went to a job interview with the director of a small IT company in St Kilda, who insisted on meeting at his office at 6pm, outside work hours. As I walked in, the last employee was walking out, and I was left alone with the owner, a very large man of...
... about 6’5”, and easily quadruple my weight. We sat down together in the conference room, and at once I felt I was not in control of my situation.
He asked about my resume, and I explained that I had sent a fresh version to his receptionist earlier that afternoon, with...
...the additional information they had requested. I had called her immediately afterward, and she confirmed receipt of it.
Now, he flipped the papers in front of him this way and that, and said “this isn’t the right one”. I advised him that his receptionist *had* received the...

TOP 5 WEIRDEST THINGS THAT I HAVE SEEN ON CANDIDATE CVs

Besides common spelling mistakes, below are the top 5 weirdest things I have seen on CVs during my early days as a Senior (Regional) Recruiter and Hiring Manager:

(Check them out in the comments thread below)
1. NAME MIX UP

Unless otherwise specified, your name should always be written as [First Name] [Last Name]. This is how your interviewer and work colleagues will address you. Mixing your name or the order of your first/last name only causes confusion in the workplace.
2. MULTIPLE CONTACT DETAILS

Unless otherwise specified, you should always provide ONE phone number and ONE email address as your contact details. Providing more than one creates the impression that you're hard to reach and no recruiter/employer likes chasing after a candidate.

In just two weeks I have experienced contacts with the Department of Housing, Job Service Providers, the hotline for same with Dept of Education, Skills & Wmployment and Centrelink. All have taken hours of my time in calls & appointments with them that bring zero hope. #auspol
For each one of these contacts, I am required to give my Centrelink Reference Number - I feel I no longer have a name, I am simply to be referred to as 123456789A nine numbers and one letter. After which all manner of other identifying details become relevant and required.
I am working in a underemployed capacity, and literally am only eligible for a whopping just under twenty dollars of the set rate of JobSeeker (sans Covid19 supplement) and has been on this payment for years - what help is provided? What assistance? Why is now different?

#OpEd on the #CoronaVirus in the #UK: @michael75lewis

The #Covid19 pandemic is widely out of control around the world, where countries had a degree of success in stemming it’s rapid spread, they were led by women or took a truly ‘whatever it takes’ approach to solving the issue. Image
But even those countries are now struggling to contain the virus.

In the UK, @BorisJohnson implemented the full national #lockdown in March - I myself have been #shielding since the 20th of March and although shielding was paused on the 1st of August - I have continued to
(mostly) shield since - I have only been out for urgent medical treatment and a few basic supplies - because of having brittle #asthma I cannot return to work or spend time out in the community until it is safe to do so.

The lockdown was lifted too quickly, @RishiSunak stated in

The #UKGovernment Torture Report

This is a very short overview of what the #UKAuthorities have done in the case.

In 2005, I set up a business selling CDs, namely mixtape CDs after graduating from Uni.

In 2006, my home was raided & my business was stopped. They said the CDs I was selling were in breach of copyright.
It was a complete shock as the exact same CDs I was selling were prevalent on most high streets and supermarkets. They were selling in their thousands in places such as #Tesco & #HMV. And #Woolworths were the actual UK Distributor of these CDs.

Thread - #blueocean job search strategy. How a 2004 book & term about innovative marketing strategies to create entirely unique value propositions to avoid competition & thus win by default is equally applicable to your #jobsearch efforts

Yesterday, I focused on what, in comparison to today's thread, I call the #redoceanstrategy of job search. I focused on all the problems of trying to compete in an atomistic job search marketplace w. unknown competition, employers, & status of the jobs
Yesterday I constructively tried to outline the problems in your job search when you don't or can't stand out from the competition. Today I will positively highlight the benefits of finding ways to stand entirely apart in such a way, that u have no effective competition for jobs

Okay @LinkedInHelp need you to spread the word to your tech team. This is big and a candidate brought it to my attenion...if someone is laid-off due to COVID-19 and puts their employment dates on their as let's say (feb '18- apr '20) vs (feb '18-present) they won't...
show up in a recruiter's search! Because most #sourcers and #recruiters will look at current 'title' (You used to have it listed as current title, but now it's just title) SO...they now move to like page 16 of someone' search...
SO, an active job-seeker brought this to my attention and said "I've been telling all my friends to keep their current position as to present BUT it feels unethical, but we need to appear in searches!"
SO, I leave it to you @LinkedInHelp to find the best way to fix this. Thx :)

Early this week, @Tenilussh asked me to share my motivation for switching from #IT to #HR, and to advise anyone who is scared to make such a huge career switch.

@Tenilussh, I will be as brief as possible, because it's a long story available in #MyHRStoryBook as compiled by @LaraImpacts:

This post is for #JobSeekers who have had a long gruelling 2019 and still haven't secured employment 😢.

Here are 6 things you can do over the December holiday, when the job market is a bit quiet.
1. Reflect on the year that was in terms of your job hunting. What worked well? What didn't? Is there anything you need to do differently? If you know someone that successfully landed a job in your field, ask them for advice.
2. Read your application documents. Are they representing you in the best light? Have someone look at your CV and give you feedback.

3. You may not have landed a job, but if there are people that helped you along the way, send them a 'thank you' note to show appreciation.

At same period the UK Authorities, banks & state owned companies all converged with their plans to take our home, our car & our money, my mother's #DWP welfare benefit was also targeted on several occasions, the worst being what happened at #Adecco #Guardian #TheTimes #GMB
My mother was seeking #employment & arranged an appointment with #OfficeAngels who she was already registered with & had worked for, for years. However, the time & date of the appointment was at a similar time to that of her sign on with the #DWP. #Jobseekersallowance #Jobseekers
