THREAD ABOUT DANIEL PENNY ARREST: 1) I’ve been filming the daily protests over the chokehold death of #JordanNeely. 2) On May 8, a peaceful vigil held on the subway platform where Jordan Neely was held in a chokehold for 15 minutes by ex Marine, Daniel Penny morphed into shoving, beating by a huge police presence reminding us of May 2020 ImageImageImageImage

Jose LaSalle of @CopwatchCPU has released audio he captured after NYPD arrested him at a #JordanNeely protest.

In the 1st 2 min, the cops laugh about brutality, make sure their body cams are turned off, & say they worried about pushing each other into the train tracks.
Note: when the cops refer to "bodies" & "collars", they're referring to arrested protesters.

Check out PIX11's weaselly copaganda here.

NYPD's claim about a molotov has received lots of skepticism so PIX11 says "NYPD found items needed to make a molotov cocktail" instead of saying "NYPD found a molotov."

And they then use this to paint *protests* as violent. The protests A number of ...

Happening soon: Vigil for #JordanNeely
7pm at Broadway-Lafayette station.

I’m told far right propagandists are already at the station. They take footage to foment hate & far right causes. Image
On the ground at Broadway-Lafayette, TARU is setting up a surveillance dome. I’ve been told these domes contain facial recognition tech and livestream back to 1 Police Plaza, but I haven’t confirmed that.
A look at the SRG presence at this candlelight vigil. A white shirt walks over and says “I want the LRAD ready to go.”

Following, he says to the gaggle of SRG with him:
“If they go down the subway…(indiscernible). If they jump the turnstile, collar them.”

Happening soon: People are gathering at Broadway-Lafayette subway station for a 2pm #JusticeForJordanNeely protest.

Once again, police presence is substantial inside the station. 2 police vans stationed outside one entrance. At least 8 cops on the platform plus 2 anti-terrorism.
A vigil for #JordanNeely is set up by stairs going into the platform. A member of @PassengersUnite is speaking to cameras. “This never should have happened,” he said. States criminalization of poverty largely happens on the outskirts in predominantly black & brown communities. Image

We got banned for challenging the George Floyd narrative. Now we can tell the truth. 🧵

#JordanNeely was a mentally ill & very dangerous homeless man. The media will portray him as they did with other black men, who’s deaths were largely the result of their criminal conduct. ImageImageImageImage
The media & politicians are at it again. He was “lynched” because he was having a “mental health crisis” they say.

“New York wasn’t safe for him” & “it was a lynching” are the type of refrain we have, in between the childhood photos & stories of his Michael Jackson fandom.
The reality isn’t that simple. In fact, this outcome, while unfortunate, is entirely acceptable, & his killer(s) certainly don’t deserve the criminal convictions almost certainly headed their way.

That is the real tragedy. Before you feign outrage, I’ll explain just why that is.

Please be conscientious about which protests for #JordanNeely you attend. It’s a sick, terrible thing but high profile stories of injustice tend to get co-opted by grifts that exploit tragedy to brand build.

I will do my best to vouch and verify before sharing.
In general, some good parameters:
- Is the organizer directly active in the topic at hand?
- If no to the first, is the organizer flying solo or joined in collaboration with multiple groups that focus on the same topic?
Ex: the vigil for Neely yesterday was initiated by a homeless rights activist. Another upcoming protest is organized by multiple housing rights groups.

On-topic organizing groups typically have speakers with firsthand experience, expert knowledge. Off-topic groups speak broadly.

No one is ready to discuss this, but at what point will someone consider that if Covid impacts the brain. Perhaps this marked uptick in violence is not occurring in a vacuum, given that most Americans have had Covid.

People are truly angrier and more aggressive.
There's also the fact that increasing numbers of Americans are detached from their humanity and the humanity of others.

People are getting killed for turning around in the wrong driveway or ringing the wrong doorbell.

Sure, there's Fox, but people are rewired now.
The fact that so many think #JordanNeely being killed is justified speaks to something being very wrong with people.

Thanks to @UnsafeStreetsUS

I wanted to give a name to a victim of subway crime that was ignored.

Tommy Bailey, family man who worked as a union steamfitter. Father of three children.

He saw homeless man harassing a NYPD officer, told the man to stop

@UnsafeStreetsUS Wow a lot of typos, but I was rage tweeting.

#ACAB Daily Digest (May 3, 2023)🧵:

You never forget your first "skeet." I do not like police (olaas...
You can follow me there in the event I get axed here. I am not moving the digest there yet or even simulposting it. Yet.
"Community policing" is not some innocuous, nicer kind of policing. It is counterinsurgency. There is no context where it isn't.

I’m en route and will be live-reporting the vigil for #JordanNeely.

Apologies in advance for typos, dropped words.
Be further advised that when I’m reporting I’m prone to not see messages/DMs until after I’m away; apologies in advance for delays in responding.
Happening now: I’m on the northbound F train platform, where people are expected to gather for a vigil for #JordanNeely.

It seems someone already visited this platform, leaving an ominous message. ImageImage

A subway rider choked a man to death on the train yesterday.

According to one witness, he was restrained by a second person as the first choked him from behind because he was “being too rowdy.”

The man who died is believed to be unhoused. The man who choked him was white.
Details are scarce and the NYPD’s version of events is questionable, but across what is known, at no time did the man who was killed physically harm anyone.

The man who choked him to death was briefly in custody while questioned, then released.
The witness also notes that multiple riders praised the man who choked the guy to death, including a woman “who seemed entertained by the whole thing and looked down on him for being homeless and mentally unwell.”
