On this 33rd anniversary of the #VelvetRevolution - we reclaim our revolution, our democracy, our freedom, and our friends.
His Holiness @DalaiLama was the first foreign leader and friend President #Havel welcomed.

Mr. Havel didn't befriend him because of his military or economy. He befriended a leader who fled his home, who was not recognized by the world, and whose people faced annihilation.
President #Havel sought alliance and friendship with one who yearned to be free - who believed that truth and love must prevail over lies and hatred in the face of naked aggression and brutal repression.

#HongKongers need the same friendship from you - the Czech people - today.

🧵 How did foreign embassies/consulates in China & Hong Kong commemorate this year's #June4th #六四 #TiananmenSquareMassacre anniversary on social media?

These are only the examples we've come across. If we've missed any, please @ me.
First up, the Canadian Embassy in Beijing posted a picture of a candle on Weibo.

Helpfully, they cross-posted to Twitter & noted that it had been censored.

The German Embassy in Beijing posted a picture of a candle on WeChat, according to @YaxueCao

It was censored very quickly, apparently.

In Hong Kong’s Victoria Park, where people had come together for an annual vigil before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, authorities blocked off main parts of the venue and warned people against illegal gatherings. Full Story: reuters.com/world/chinas-t…
Heavy police presence in and around Victoria Park.
"To remember is to resist," prominent Chinese human rights lawyer @tengbiao told Reuters from the United States. "If nobody remembers, the suffering of the people will never stop and the perpetrators will continue their crimes with impunity."

Thread. Seeing the anniversary of one of Americas colour revolutions in China is coming up, I thought it was time to repost what was lost. There are many myths regarding the supposed #TiananmenSquareMassacre, knowing what we know now, how America fabricates information...
Take a look at that Iconic Image, the western media portrays #TankMan as a symbol of defiance, but what is the truth? Did you know he lived? Did you know he was actually stopping the tanks from leaving the square the morning after? Did you notice he has two bags? Lets see below Image
Here we have the full video, as you can see he goes on his merry way, his friends even give the soldiers a wave, that second bag, where did that go? A gift for the soldiers perhaps, but that is speculation. Facts are he stopped them leaving, and he lived

1/3: Today is the 32nd anniversary of the #TiananmenSquareMassacre, where large-scale democracy protests were gunned down by the army; a humiliating reminder of the #CCP‘s absolute intolerance of all dissent. Thus, all mention/commemoration of #June4th are banned on the mainland.
2/3: The banning of the massacre’s remembrance has spread to Hong Kong. A vigil was formerly held in Victoria Park for three decades, where people gathered with lit candles united by democratic desire. Now, the vigil and similar commemorative activities have been banned.
3/3: Nevertheless, we must remember and pass down this valuable history. We cannot willingly recede our right to keep governments accountable for their mistakes.

Light a candle tonight. Not just to commemorate, but to defend our democratic rights.

Our fight is far from over.

#June4th Today I want to talk about how I went from thinking that the Tiananmen crackdown was "necessary" to what I know now, which is the truth.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong but my mum is from mainland China. Growing up she was quite a tiger mum [1/]
and she almost never let me watch TV. She also didn't agree to let me subscribe to any newspaper. My only source of current affairs was mostly her own opinions.

She never liked the student protesters involved in the democracy movement that led up to the #June4th massacre. [2/]
I should point out that she herself was a student at a university in China during 1989, so she actually had first-hand knowledge of how the protests began, progressed and ended. I guess this was one of the (many) reasons why my younger self had believed her so firmly. [3/]
