The violent policing of cisnormativity has long been part of the U.S. colonial project in the #Philippines. Unbrided sexual access to Filipino/a/x bodies has also long been a feature of that empire. #JusticeForJenniferLaude #pinoy philstar.com/headlines/2020…
That's why a U.S. soldier can kill a trans woman and effectively get off with only a slap on the wrist (confined to base for just six years only to be pardoned by the transphobic head of state.) Laude's transness was literally a mitigating factor by the state in the sentencing.
What this means is that the U.S. and Philippine states continue to exist as vehicles to promote cis, hetro, family formation and punish bodies that interfere with the social reproduction of a new 'reserve labor army' in the Philippines--to be used as needed by global capital.

I'm pretty sure that it wasn't anti-Americanism that made #SenatePH, led by the great Jovito Salonga, reject the U.S. Military Bases Agreement in 1991. It wasn't a FAIR treaty on PH side since 1947.

As it wasn't FAIR & JUST on PH to have Pemberton be granted Absolute Pardon.
Look at TBL's narrative meant to confuse the public—how he could just code switch like nothing happened. China-appeasement on a prev day, US-praises in the next.

Let's stick to the issue.

Was Absolute Pardon fair for Jennifer Laude and her family?

Was it JUST?

No. And no.
And those who call for #JusticeForJenniferLaude will find many allies among the civil rights & LGBT rights movement in the U.S.

Let's not muddle the issue, shall we?
