However, it shifts the focus back to the old narrative that Kenyans are somehow responsible for the current insecurity, and that if we "got out of Somalia", the "Banditry" would stop. It also very subtly blames the 'Somali Muslim'.

#Kenya - reports of an Al Shabab attack on #US and #Kenyan military base in Lamu - attack began as a suicide bombing. (@HusseinM12)
#BREAKING - Al Shabaab fighters have taken "effective control of part of the base" according to the group (@Hamza_Africa)
Just an FYI: Iran doesn't have any major ties with Al-Shabaab, so I wouldn't concern yourself with this being an Iran-backed attack.

This man (photo) is Zakariye, ex-Head of Al-Shabaab Intelligence. He orchestrated many attacks including the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. Now, he works for the Somali Govt & is protected by his cousin @M_Farmaajo. I understand he regularly travels to Nairobi & often visits Westgate.
Few months after the Westgate attack I travelled to Somalia to report from inside Al-Shabaab training camp where the militants were training hundreds of fighters.
Zakariye was praised for 'succeeding the Westgate project'.
I wonder what Westgate victims would think that the man who masterminded such an attack visits the same Shopping Mall to socialise and I am told that he enjoys having a sugared Cappuccino.

A thread re police extra-judicial execution.
Over the years the Kenya Police has acquired a dubious distinction of being the source of insecurity instead of providing security. In many instance, to many Kenyan’s the police represent a clear, and imminent danger to the lives.
But the transformation from the source of security into a bastion of insecurity didn’t occur overnight, and neither did it come as a surprise; it was an inevitable outcome of multiple factors.
Before the 2010 constitution, the police was at the beck and call of the executive, which used it as a tool of coercion. The executive used the police however deemed fit to meet its political ends.

My novel #TailoftheBlueBird has a fictional #Kenyan character called #Gawana who has run away from home to escape #British brutality. He's a vital sub character for me, but I'm often asked by Euro-readers who notice him: how is that possible? Nothing bad happened in Kenya! Well..
You can read more about things like the #DilutionTechnique used by the Brits to 'subdue' the #Kikuyu in this @guardian piece: theguardian.com/news/2016/aug/… Other sources reveal varied sexual assaults, which echo in my story Scotch Bonnets from #TheCityWillLoveYou. Writers hide research
Writers hide a whole lot of research, but it's those snippets from history that add ballast to our work. It's why I always say a book is the beginning of a conversation (more on that later) and as readers we can always do more. In fact I think I love being a reader more... #books

#NRT, @USAID several @EU_Commission countries are lobbying the @IEBCKenya and the Environment, Mining, Minerals, Wildlife and Pollution Committee in #KENYAN Parliament to scrap constituencies to make one single 'manageable' constituency in Northern Kenya.
[Note that #NRT is owned by the @RoyalFamily. It is NOT owned by 'the communities' - who have no land title deeds - all this land has been "grabbed" though eviction, burning homes, killing cattle, poisoning boreholes and "NRT" does not benefit the community in any manner]
