We’ve made it to Portland where the skyline is barely visible from the east side of the Willamette, the air quality here tonight is “hazardous.” With the fires burning in Oregon, upwards of 500,000 people have had to evacuate their homes. That’s 10% of the state’s pop #KOMONews
This just buzzed on @AdrianKOMONews’ phone. Looks like it came out about 40 minutes ago. Having lived and worked in Portland for 4+ years, it’s hard to imagine a town like Canby under a “BE SET” notice #KOMONews #LiveOnK2 Image
BREAKING: @ClackCoSheriff enacts curfew beginning tonight in less than an hour. We’ve made it to Molalla, under a “GO NOW” evac warning, where people are dropping off food and water at the fire station #KOMONews #LiveOnK2 ImageImageImage

A look at opposing rallies in Shelton this afternoon. On one side, a “Back the Blue” crowd. On the other, Black Lives Matter. Plenty of police, open carry and chanting going on. BLM supporters have marched to the Mason Co Juvenile Detention Center #KOMONews
Police breakup a group of people getting chippy. Haven’t seen any violence so far. I did speak with one woman with the BLM group who’s from Shelton. She says she’s disappointed to see the “racism” in the place she grew up #KOMONews
Arguing at this parking lot, a group of pro-Trump supporters say if law enforcement wasn’t present, these protesters “wouldn’t be standing here.” Each side trying to drown out the chants of the other #KOMONews

A look down 3rd Way SE from School St. SE. It’s hard to make out much of anything between how dark it is and the flashing lights. It appears as though the windshield of this truck has bullet holes in it #KOMONews
Speaking now, PIO with @ThurstonSheriff. “There was a confrontation,” shots were fired into vehicle. “We are not confirming the involved identity” of man killed, only saying he had an outstanding warrant for homicide #KOMONews Image
There were four members of that Apprehension Team that fired their weapons. “Not confirmed” if suspect “actually fired.” Were told this whole thing happened very quickly from the time he left the apartment to the shots being fired #KOMONews

A new-look @SeattlePD East Precinct this afternoon. In addition to a wall of reinforced concrete barriers, this chain link fence was bolted down on top of it. Still a few @seattledot crews out here with some nearby roads closed #KOMONews ImageImageImage
We’ve already heard a few people ask “how much is that costing me as a taxpayer?” That’s a good question and one we’re trying to get answered, along with who made the call to put it up. @SeattlePD says it isn’t in anticipation of any protests #KOMONews
Here’s the statement we just received from @MayorJenny’s office on all of this. “...too early to give a cost estimate...” #KOMONews ImageImageImage

We met Sidney outside as nearly all visitors are now restricted. His mother, who just turned 88 today, is here for a checkup. He worries that once she’s out, she’ll be quarantined at her assisted living center. “She needs to be around people.” More at 11 #KOMONews ImageImage

The streets surrounding @TMobilePark look a little different for this year’s @Mariners home opener - and businesses are feeling the blow. With no fans allowed inside, this towel from Joe’s Grilled Gourmet Dogs sums it up, “I Wasn’t There” #KOMONews ImageImageImage
Joe’s story is one of the better ones we’ve heard down here. He hasn’t missed an Opening Day in 15 years - he wasn’t going to let this year be his first. He put out the notice on Facebook that he’d be open. People have come from as far as Sequim and Portland for a dog #KOMONews ImageImageImage
With just a sliver of the big screen showing, “Big Lo” is down here cheering on the @Mariners - “it’s all about the energy!” #KOMONews

We’re standing by for a media briefing with @MayorJenny and @carmenbest following Saturday’s protest that SPD deemed a riot. These photos show some of what was confiscated, including homemade spike strips, and damage to the inside of a building #KOMONews ImageImageImageImage
Starting off, @carmenbest says people threw Molotov cocktails into trailers at the youth jail construction site. She says people in a van then handed out baseball bats, fireworks and face masks near East Precinct, that van was left abandoned #KOMONews Image
“Not everyone in these protests are peaceful,” she says. A member of the bomb squad now going over some of those items that were confiscated. Among the fireworks and other things, bear spray was also recovered. He says officers have been sprayed with it #KOMONews Image

At the fencing around the East Precinct, the Latex Print Unit appears to be dusting for fingerprints. As far as the scene compared to this time yesterday - a stark contrast. It’s very quiet around here #KOMONews Image
Yes, this should’ve read “latent” not “latex.” Thank you, Twitter
On that note, it’s my Friday ✌🏻

A few more photos from this fire. With no door knob on the front door, fire fighters entered through a second story window. At one point, some were trapped and a mayday call was put out. One fire fighter did suffer minor injuries. We’ll have the latest coming up at 4 #KOMONews ImageImage
