I have not written on Bollywood but as former city editor of Bombay Times (pre paid news era) here's my two paisa take on #SSR death and #KanganaRanawat interview.
1: Bollywood is about groups. Journos HAVE to be in these groups, do interviews, get stars for award shows
2: Movies have massive promotion budgets. Too much money rides on big launches. You cannot be on wrong side
3: There is NO journalism. Marketing guys don't like bad reviews. Happy interviews
4: Mid level actor can get a journo sacked for damaging story. Seen it twice
The circle is now facing biggest backlash and their only defence is - #KanganaRanawat is crazy. Mad. Revengeful. Can't be trusted. Senior editors have been speaking in private this way.'No one is responding, becoz not worth it' is the defence on silence of the biggies. Smart move

1 tweet mildly critical of #KanganaRanaut = 40+ hours of communal trolling, misogyny, abuse, lies. If you still think this is about #SushantSinghRajput or #nepotism, if you do not see that hers is a self-serving battle backed by the IT Cell & unrelated to Sushant, you are naive. Image
Tell me, #SushantSinghRajput's genuine fans, is it your belief that Sushant - who took a stand on Hindutva-Rajput extremism - would have approved of this? 👇🏾 What explains such tweets being sent by those who claim to be fighting in his name? #nepotism #outsiders #KanganaRanawat ImageImageImage
"Patti" is "bitch"/"dog" in Malayalam. "Patticad" is a play on my surname. This troll is basically calling me "The Vetticad Bitch". A writer friend says there are other obnoxious interpretations too for the coinage. & to think these trolls claim to care about #SushantSinghRajput Image

After watching #KanganaSpeaksToArnab interview, I personally feel Indian audience does not know how to appreciate good movies.

Who are these people that give critical reviews on good movies? And then who are those people who make the shit movies super-hit?
Clearly, Indian audiences like things spiced with drama and exaggerations. A purely sensible story, without the ‘masala’, will not draw audiences. They would prefer mindless comedies over serious cinema that makes one think and ponder.
India Audience needs to understand that merely writing good reviews on social media and voting on IMDB is not the end of their duty. Film-making is a business, and if you want good movies to be made, you need to step out and watch those movies.
