Le pont a été construit pour relier la ville de Taman en Russie à Kerch en Crimée occupée illégalement suite à une opération militaire russe en 2014. Officiellement nommé Крымский мост, ou "Pont de la Réunification", sa construction a durée de 2015 à 2018.
Le pont est le plus long de Russie à 19kms, et a coûté 3,5 milliards d'euros. Il se compose d'un pont routier et d'un pont ferroviaire. Poutine l'avait inauguré en grande pompe en conduisant un camion orange à travers le pont pour son ouverture. C'est LE symbole de son régime
