This lesson hit me square between the eyes when a grandmother came into my office in tears.

She shared with me that she had been raising her grandson since he was 3 weeks old because his mother just up and left and they had no idea who the father was.

She said... (/1)
every year there's one day that she brings her grandson to school and he has a complete meltdown and it leaves her heartbroken. What day? The day we do "Muffins with Mom".

She said, "though I do everything for him just like I AM his mother, I can't show my face at... (/2)
that event because the other women will stare and whisper about how I'm not his mother, why am I there".

In that moment I knew something had to change. And I knew it wasn't going to be difficult.

I believe our schools should be places where we welcome all. Where our... (/3)

Social emotional learning seems to be the hot topic and buzzword of choice these days, and for good reason honestly.

But it's nothing new.

I will never forget hearing about the importance of teaching students skills like resilience, goal setting, team work, .... (/1)
fair-play, community involvement, and so much more. My initial thoughts were "isn't that the counselors job?" and "I don't have time in my class to cover that". Boy was I wrong.

Then I accidentally came across this organization called @ClassroomChamps ...... (/2)
and it rocked my world.

I learned I could connect my classroom with top performing Olympic & Paralympic athletes to help me teach them (and me) those skills.

I was immediately sold, & applied right away. Through my years as a classroom teacher and then school principal... (/3)

When this realization first hit me, it hit me hard.

I was working so hard to create a space that students (and adults) would love coming into every day. I thought I was killing it. Then one day my buddy, @E_Sheninger came to visit my campus. And one of his questions... (/1) Image
to me was "when are you getting student input?"

Of course my first thought was "they're elementary students, they're too young for that". And the moment that thought entered my head I was embarrassed. Our kids are only too young for things that... (/2)
WE make them too young for.

So I started Student Advisory groups to help look at current practices and spaces and see if there was room for improvement!

That group of PreK-5th Grade students redesigned our cafeteria seating layout, upscaled our student bathrooms, came... (/3)

First of all, if folks have any potential symptoms, they need to get tested and STAY HOME.

Common symptoms:
*Fevers/chills
*Shortness of breath
*Cough
*Fatigue
*Sore throat
*Headache
*Muscle aches
*Loss of taste/smell
*Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea

cdc.gov/coronavirus/20…
Unfortunately, though, we cannot effectively screen out all of those with active infections because some don't get severe symptoms.

Some folks who are infected are:
*Minimally symptomatic
*Pre-symptomatic
*Asymptomatic

However, we believe they can still spread infection.

I am writing a blog post to encourage more teachers to join Twitter for professional development. I want to include recommending some Twitter accounts that they should follow. Who do you think is someone that they should follow?
I will also be recommending TWITTER CHATS! Keep them coming! #masterychat #TLAP #edchat #kidsdeserveit #eduductTape #formativechat #digcit #satchat
Also, if you answer this question, I would love to quote you on my blog. "What are the benefits of teachers using Twitter and WHY do YOU use it?"

Kicking off #WalkBikePlaces with an infrastructure tour on @BlueBikesNOLA. Several under way now; I'm on the one that looks at public art, placemaking. #bikeNOLA
First stop: Jackson Square, National Historic Site, named for Andrew J. Led battle that saved NOLA in 1812 but owned enslaved people. Should his statue come down? #WalkBikePlaces
Beautiful murals! Families of Plessy and Ferguson reconciled with art in celebration. Studio BE right across the street--big studio space in covered warehouse. @BlueBikesNOLA station right here at park.
