I had a idea for the "press freedom" issue during the Leveson enquiry, and I still things it's a goer. The #KimDarroch affair brought it back to mind.

So the problem is: there are sometimes good reasons for journalists to break laws or publish secrets without naming sources - for example the Expenses Scandal.

But this is clearly open to abuse.

And scurrilous journos / publishers have abused press freedom A LOT
Journalism, as we see with #KimDarroch, has the potential to cause huge harm. You can't just let it run wild; but neither can you censor it, cos that's open to abuse too.

So my idea is to introduce licences to practice journalism, just as you need a license to practice medicine.
