Inspired by some of the "crimes against the #fibreArts" images from @carriecraftgeek 's Livemas 3 today, I present:

"If media treated traditionally male activities with the same ignorance and lack of research as they do crafts; a thread:"

Peaceful protest has been crucial to winning just about every right and freedom currently enjoyed by Australians - and so much we love and care about.
So how have two women ended up in the Supreme Court today, having to defend rights of peaceful protest?

Earlier this year the NSW government passed regressive laws which could be applied to punish peaceful protest, so Dominique and Helen - represented by the wonderful crew at @EDOLawyers - have brought a constitutional challenge before the Supreme Court:

Under the new laws, protestors can face up to 2 years of jail and a $22,000 fine if protests are considered ‘disruptive’ which could apply, for example, to people protesting near a railway station and causing people to be redirected around them: abc.net.au/news/2022-04-0…

(Because this thread is nervous-making for me to write.)

I want to talk cold, hard numbers about what #designers make, because it looks like there are some huge misconceptions floating around out there in the #knitting world.
There is currently a kerfuffle on IG, which has spilled over into Twitter, about the financial accessibility of yarn, because a knitter went to purchase the recommended yarn for the pattern she wanted to make and it was a ghastly high total.

Also at MSUM care earlier textile shopping bags made by women. The history of the #shopping bag has been one told mostly by manufacturers and mostly by historians of technology and business, both based on invention of machines to manufacture paper bags. mo.ma/2m4XhKh

The Sleep Blanket

A visualization of my son's sleep pattern from birth to his first birthday. Crochet border surrounding a double knit body. Each row represents a single day. Each stitch represents 6 minutes of time spent awake or asleep #knitting #crochet #datavisualization
The original plan was to crochet the entire blanket but I switched to double knitting because the data was much more clearly visualized and the color changes (of which there were literally thousands) were significantly easier
The body is made of four vertical panels seamed together. The seams are slightly less aesthetically pleasing but breaking it up made it more portable, easier to fix mistakes, and easier track progress
