Raja Bhairav Dev being the only son of Raja Vijaychandraksha was crowned as the king of Nandapur in 1510. He accepted the suzerainty of Gajapati Maharaja Prataprudra Dev & fought alongside him in the battle against Emperor Krishna Dev Raya of Vijayanagara Empire.

In 1515, Raja Bhairav Dev along with the other vassal chiefs of Gajapati Maharaja Prataprudra Dev led the historic defence of the Kondapalli Fort near Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh against the army of Vijayanagara empire’s Maharajadhiraj Krishna Dev Raya.
Despite the robust defence of the fort by the Gajapati army, Vijayanagara was victorious and Krishna Dev Raya occupied the fort in June, 1515 after three months of seige. Evidently, Prataprudra Dev had to retreat back to his capital to defend an attack by the Shah of Bengal.
