Esattamente 139 anni fa avveniva una delle eruzioni vulcaniche più potenti e distruttive che si sono verificate nel corso della storia moderna dell'umanità. Stiamo parlando della terribile eruzione prodotta dal vulcano #Krakatau (o Krakatoa) il 27 agosto del 1883.
L'eruzione del 1883 è iniziata durante il mese di maggio con delle sporadiche ma intense esplosioni che si sono susseguite per interi mesi, un fenomeno che aveva stupito e affascinato moltissimi marinai locali.
Secondo i racconti dell'epoca tale attività tendeva a generare delle modeste colonne eruttive che occasionalmente si elevavano in quota anche per 9-10 chilometri e provocavano una modesta ricaduta di cenere e lapilli in tutta l'isola principale presente al centro della caldera

... which, especially in our current situation, is not doing anything good for anybody. Volcanologists (as scientists working in many other disciplines) have to fight a constant battle about uncorrect or plainly false information. Unfortunately ...
... once false "news" starts circulating, there's hardly a way to stop it, and immense work is required to rectify and spread the correct information. Why is that? Because false information is not only misleading but often intended to create anguish and deflect from other issues.

On August 27, 1883 the island of Krakatoa (Indonesia), which housed three Siamese volcanoes, was swallowed up after a major eruption that caused not only the destruction of the island, but also effects that affected the entire planet. #Krakatau
The eruption threw debris up to 100 km high, caused tsunamis that killed thousands of people and were even perceived in the English Channel. The phenomenon altered the climate of the planet, stirred with light, air and even the colors of the sunset in various places of the world.

The man in the interview, Roni, from Sumatra say the eruption of #Krakatau climaxed before the Tsunami, and that the eruption around 20:00 in the evening became different than what they seen before. Lightning was produced by the volcano. 2/9
He got a lot of fish this day, much more than normal. However because of the condition the fishermen decided to return home early. But suddenly huge waves arrived without a warning. 3/9
