THREAD #BLM 1/ In 1995 we marched through Kennington to protest the death of Brian Douglas in police custody. Yesterday’s protest was sparked by the death of George Floyd in police custody in Minneapolis. But it was about a lot more… I'll let the signs speak: 
I watched the #LDNBLM demo go past my street and applauded... I can tell you after 20+ years of reporting and participating in protests, this was one of the youngest and most representative of working class demos I've seen, on a par with Nov/Dec 2010 .. they had mass support ...
...it was the opposite of "political activists" but the scale of political literacy and engagement was clearly high.
... and remember - almost everyone in that picture is producing surplus value for capital: the baristas, the admin workers, the students servicing debt, the renters... and has seen their future cancelled by Covid-19 and 10 years of austerity...
