The fair deal we are fighting for:

Ending the scandal of thousands of patients every week stuck for hours in the back of an ambulance, waiting to get into A&E.

Protecting our environment by banning raw sewage from being dumped into our rivers.

@EdwardJDavey at #LDConf
@EdwardJDavey Taking real action on the climate crisis and the biodiversity crisis.

Helping small businesses to recover from the pandemic.

Making our communities safe by tackling the rise in crime.

Welcoming refugees with care and compassion.

Restoring trust and decency to our politics.
@EdwardJDavey Our vision of a fair deal is certainly an ambitious one.

But I make no apologies for being ambitious.

Our great country and the great British people deserve nothing less.

But we can’t stop there.

Because, as all parents know, the impact of Covid on our children goes far beyond the learning they have lost.

We worry about the effect this pandemic has had on their emotional development too. Their mental health and wellbeing.

@EdwardJDavey #LDConf
@EdwardJDavey For every five children who need mental health treatment, three of them are unable to access it.

And some have to travel hundreds of miles to get it.

We wouldn’t tolerate it for children's physical health, and we mustn’t tolerate it for their mental health either.
@EdwardJDavey That is a profound failure – not just by the Conservative Government in Westminster, but also the Nationalists in Scotland and Labour in Wales.

They are neglecting our children on an industrial scale.

As part of our fair deal, we need to change that.

Nowhere is that fair deal more important than in education.

When you’re a parent, and you pour that amount of love and devotion into your kids.

You deserve to know that the Government will do its bit for them too.

@EdwardJDavey at #LDConf
@EdwardJDavey You should know that they are walking into a building that’s been well-maintained.

That their teacher has the time and resources to give every child in the class proper attention.

And that they will leave with the grades they need and the hope and opportunities they deserve.
@EdwardJDavey We cannot underestimate the damage that’s been done to that promise over the last two years.

That’s why we're calling for a Children’s Catch Up Fund of at least £15 billion.

With Catch-Up Vouchers to spend how parents see fit. So parents can choose the best for their child.

Rishi Sunak has wasted more of our money than any Chancellor in history – and now wants us to pay for it in unfair tax rises.

@EdwardJDavey at #LDConf
@EdwardJDavey This Chancellor is failing millions of people hit so hard by the cost-of-living crisis.

He could have asked the fossil fuel giants – raking in super profits – to do their bit.

A windfall tax, to raise the cash to cut people’s energy bills now. But no. Not this Chancellor. Image
@EdwardJDavey Just look at what Rishi’s doing with taxes.

A big tax cut for the banks. A big tax rise for you.

And such unfair tax rises - costing every family six hundred pounds a year.

A new jobs tax that will hurt business and workers alike.

Being taken for granted was what caused the people of Buckinghamshire to rise up in their thousands and vote for Sarah Green last summer.

It’s what caused the people of Shropshire to rise up and vote for Helen Morgan in December.

@EdwardJDavey at #LDConf
@EdwardJDavey We will all miss our dear friend, Erlend Watson.

A true Liberal, whose infectious energy, encyclopaedic mind and big heart are legendary.

But it is at least fitting that the final by-election of Erlend’s life was a historic Lib Dem gain.

@EdwardJDavey at #LDConf
@EdwardJDavey The people of North Shropshire showed they won’t be taken for granted any more.

And they have shown the rest of the country what you get when you vote Liberal Democrat: A real local champion, who will work hard for her constituency and fight for a fair deal for local people.

The lawbreaking and lies of this Prime Minister are matched only by the cowardice and complicity of Conservative MPs.

They ducked their responsibility to kick Boris Johnson out of Downing Street. They chose to keep as Prime Minister a man who broke his own laws.

#LDConf Image
With a few honourable exceptions, Conservative MPs now all subscribe to Boris Johnson's new conservative philosophy:

Truth doesn’t matter.

Laws are for other people.

Rules don’t apply to them.
And what angers everyone, whatever their views – what really sticks in the craw – is that these Tory MPs think they can get away with it.

The Conservatives think they can take you for fools, just as they take your votes for granted.

But they won’t get away with it.

The @RemainerNow team were at #LDConf for a few days we had a stand and an event. The idea was to raise awareness amongst activists but also meet/chat to parliamentarians so they could learn more about us & how we could help them & anti-brexit colleagues.

Here is who we met 👇
First here are the parliamentarians we met on the exhibition stand we had. They came and talked to us about our campaign & how they can help, they heard #RemainerNow stories, saw some video content and collected handouts and our new business cards.

3 take aways from #LDConf

1. The revoke policy is a gamble - while overwhelmingly backed by members, chatter in Bournemouth reveals concern over how it'll be received. Also worry that it could disrupt the Remain alliance by deterring potential partners.

2. Party figures are bullish about a general election and have really raised expectations

Chuka Umunna's 200 seat claim might be OTT but the number of target seats has been doubled to 80

Sarah Wollaston told me they "certainly" should aim for 100+

3. Defections have really boosted the party - increased media attention, members generally delighted (Berger received a standing ovation at a packed fringe yday)

But the Lee episode raises challenges which come with growth and serious Qs about the process businessinsider.com/3-things-we-le…

We're discussing reining in the online 'wild west' of political campaigning with @Wera_Hobhouse MP, our own Dr @JessicaJGarland and @kyletaylor from @fairvoteuk with David Howarth as Chair. #LDconf
Acording to David, there are 3 goals of electoral law
1.Limit foreign interference
2.Transparency
3.Cap spending
But digital tools allow bad actors to circumvent all of them

Tim Farron, David Cameron, this really is a weekend for the memories.
Seeing Farron address the Lib Dem conference is helpful for the party. It reminds them of how woeful their fortunes were when he was leading them (not entirely his fault) and how far, in such a short time, they've come. #LDConf
Farron says it's "mission accomplished" being "restored" to their place as the third party of British politics. Errrrrr...
