To be an effective (& empathetic) educator, it's vital to set goals and reflect. Some of my goals for this teaching period were regarding learner engagement/participation, retention rates & a demonstrated increase in student learning from one assessment to the next. Image
Student feedback (student perceptions) andincidental feedback are some of the most important methods and artefacts I utilizewhen reflecting on how well I achieved my goals in a teaching period.
Further, one of the main things the Academic Team (Unit Coordinator and Program Director)look at are retention rates, fail rates and pass rates.

To those who usually work in 'traditional' Unis & now working fully in online spaces, pls ensure your learning materials/content are accessible to all. Have you considered this? What accessibility design guidelines will you implement? #LLNNeeds #accessibiltyforall #onlinelearning
Online classes need to be accessible as well. For example, page navigation should be consistently clear & uncluttered.

@NomadWarMachine @digisim @LTHEchat Yes. SoTL is different. Trigwell has four dimensions:
1. Engagement with literature
2. Reflection on practice
3. Making public for external scrutiny
4. Student centred conception of teaching. #lthechat

@NomadWarMachine @digisim @LTHEchat Antman & Olsson talk about the relationship between theory and practice and how that develops SoTL. In practice, practice always outstrips theory because of barriers to understanding. #lthechat

@NomadWarMachine @digisim @LTHEchat Pat Hutchings talks about the lack of theory as being the Elephant in the Room. It’s a constant problem with SoTL as many practitioners don’t come from a discipline where theoretical frameworks are used. #lthechat

The aim of feedback is to promote critical-thinking and problem-solving mechanisms that enable learners to assess their own progress and apply a critically reflective approach to academic work.

However, text-based feedback has limitations, and, on it's own, is not inclusive.

“Higher education institutions are being criticised more for inadequacies in the feedback they provide to students than for almost any other aspect of their course..." (Boud & Molloy 2013, p. 698).

@RacePhil @timeshighered The commencing year of university study is conceivably the most crucial time for engaging learners & equipping them with the skills not only to persist, but to be successful and independent, in their knowledge acquisition and application throughout their undergraduate years.
@RacePhil @timeshighered Each individual learner presents unique academic challenges; as educators, we must tailor feedback dialogue to each learner’s needs. Students now expect flexibility, personalisation and engaging learning experiences that meet their individual learning goals and needs. #LTHEChat
