Der Kern der Sache ist, dass man mit heutigen Mitteln problemlos irgendwelche Tier-Viren für Menschen ansteckender machen kann. Das wird auch routinemäßig gemacht. Man nennt das Gain-of-Function-Forschung. 2/9
Um solche Forschung gab es vor knapp zehn Jahren schon Riesenärger, als Fouchier und Kawaoka ein Vogelgrippevirus für Säugetiere ansteckender machten. Es gab ein Moratorium und Diskussionen und dann forschte man weiter. Die Verfahren sind nicht neu. 3/9
