Happy #LaborDayWeekend! Slave labor is still legal in the United States.
The 13th Amendment to the US Constitution—ratified after the Civil War to outlaw slavery—has an exception. For people incarcerated.
In NY, people are forced to mass produce hand sanitizer. Not allowed to use it. In California, risk their lives to stop wildfires. Not allowed to become firefighters. In Louisiana, filled sandbags to save homes. Left in cages when storm hit. motherjones.com/crime-justice/…

Happy #LaborDayWeekend

Just a friendly reminder— the virus doesn’t take holidays.

If you’re going to be socializing:

1/
do it outdoors; if you’re indoors, plz keep your windows open

Masks are *most critical* inside in close quarters— where transmission happens most easily ⬇️
2/ Transmission can and does happen sometimes *when you least expect it*

When you’re eating w/ friends and masks are off...

When you’re crowded in line for the bathroom bc you really gotta go...

Need to keep the “3 Cs” close to you— memorize them:
3/ AVOID

•Close contact (transmission happens over course of minutes, may be more or less depending on circumstances, like if someone sneezes right in your face)

•Closed spaces: indoor transmission is several fold higher than outdoor

•Crowds: avoid them

Today, @HoustonHealth is reporting 510 new cases of #COVID19, bringing the total to 64,985.

The total number of deaths went up by 13 to 862.
We need to follow safe practices this #LaborDayWeekend because celebrations around the Memorial Day and July 4th weekends helped the virus spread in our community.
Our testing sites will remain open Saturday and Sunday. But on Monday, but only the testing site at Minutr Maid Park Lot C will be open for #COVID19 testing.

Visit houstonemergency.org/covid19 for a full list of testing sites.

OHA Director Patrick Allen during today’s press conference: “We enter #LaborDayWeekend on a clear downtrend in daily #COVID19 cases throughout #Oregon. Since the peak of the pandemic in mid-July, we have experienced a 30% drop in weekly cases.”
"Our collective efforts appear to be slowing the spread of the virus for the time being. But we need to keep up the pressure for much longer if we hope to reopen our schools for classroom instruction, and see our businesses and communities recover."
"We continue to see social gatherings as one of the primary ways this disease spreads. The choices we make not only affect us & our families, but our neighbors & our communities. We cannot celebrate #LaborDay and all the holidays this fall and winter the way we have in the past."
