#cryptocurrency (and the related #blockchain money-making gewgaw, the #NFT) are in a sense nothing new. there have been untold millions of #investment scams and #business tricks and other shifty clever ways that at least *pretend* they can guarantee an effortless #profit.

this is an artifact of the extreme #wealth inequality encouraged by #capitalism: once you've got a bunch of elite capitalists *hoarding* all the #money, that means you've got big enough piles to *steal*. all get-rich-quick schemes are ultimately acts of disguised _theft_.

What is revealed is how rapidly the All India #Congress retreated whenever the masses were in motion, and how in this case a strategic political retreat necessitated a communalist rather than class view of an important peasant (1/25)

The #Moplahs were #Muslim peasants in Malabar (now part of the state of #Kerala ) on India's west coast. In 1922 it had a population of 400,000, of which 163,328 were Hindus and 236,672 were Muslims. The Moplahs were amongst the most heavily exploited (2/25)

A thought on #NYC: the city isn’t dying, but it has problems: the cost of living is too high, #incomeinequality is rampant, and the city’s blood runs through its #transit system. Some things to consider:

Someone in the ministry of justice must know how many possession claims have been issued and are currently stayed.
And they're not saying anything.
But the numbers they have published seem to say there's no huge backlog waiting to bring about a huge wave of homelessness.

Between April and July (inclusive), there have been 3022 possession claims escalated to courts by landlords, 44% of which are from private landlords.
That's roughly 10% of the figure for the same period last year.

I have some issues with the statistics (which are from the ministry of justice) because in the same period there have been 658 possession orders and 268 bailiffs warrants - when this activity shouldn't have been possible.
