This is the latest in my weekly threads about my recovery from #coronavirus/#COVID19, to give fellow survivors a sense of what it's like. Standard disclaimer: everyone is different, #YMMV.

(Last week: bit.ly/2VMCd9G.)

I was discharged from @NYUlangone on 4/1. So today, 4/22, marks three weeks out of the hospital.

How am I doing? Pretty OK! Some things better than last week, some things worse, some the same.

For patients who had serious cases of #coronavirus/#COVID, recovery can be a long process. As one such patient, I'll track my recovery on a weekly basis, in case it might be useful to others. Of course, #YMMV.

I was discharged from @NYUlangone on 4/1. So today, 4/8, marks one week out of the hospital.

How am I doing? Overall I feel good, although I still have a long way to go.

This is my definitive statement about my medications/treatments for #coronavirus/#COVID19/#COVID_19.

Please note: it corrects errors in past statements of mine, for which I apologize.

#LatsCovid19Journal
Caveat: I'm not a doctor or scientist, and I have no medical or scientific background. I'm just a patient who received a bunch of medications/treatments and recovered from #coronavirus.

#COVID19 #COVID_19 #LatsCovid19Journal
I wasn't sure if what I remembered about my medications was correct, so I asked a doctor at @NYUlangone to look at my actual patient records; these tweets are based on those records.

Not an #AprilFoolsDay Joke: after 17 days at @nyulangone, including 6 days on a ventilator, I’m being discharged! Here’s my final hospital bed selfie. #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal
Thanks to the #HealthcareHeroes here at @nyulangone who not only saved my life, but made a long hospitalization as pleasant as such an experience can be. #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal
Here at @nyulangone, a top academic hospital, they’re also engaging in research to help learn more about how to fight diseases like #coronavirus/#covid19; I’m participating in 2 studies. #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal

Cf. when my husband was contacted by @NYULangone for medical consent after I was intubated.

"Congratulations! David is eligible to be part of a special FDA drug trial - because he's experiencing life-threatening lung failure & hooked up to a ventilator."
Specifically (emphasis added): "You are agreeing to the emergency use of clazakizumab... based on a small number of patients who developed similar LIFE-THREATENING PULMONARY FAILURE [from] COVID-19."

#coronavirus #COVID19 #CoronaBoy #LatsCovid19Journal
"In these patients, a drug similar to clazakizumab showed promise as an effective treatment for PATIENTS WITH RESPIRATORY FAILURE WHO WERE LIKELY TO DIE."

He agreed; I got the drug (along w/tocilizumab).

Thanks! I must say, though, that an extended hospital stay isn’t consistent with my normal regimen. I haven’t moisturized in 17 days - or, for that matter, showered/shaved! Can’t wait to get home, clean up. #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal
I asked a nurse here if there was a shower I could use. Her candor was great: “Yes, but... you’re so close to discharge, wouldn’t be you rather take a nice hot bath when you get home?” #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal #HospitalLife
She then offered me a bunch of wipes so I could sponge myself down that way, which I gratefully accepted. #coronavirus #COVID19 #coronaboy #LatsCovid19Journal #HospitalLife

The latest installment in #LatsCovid19Journal by yours truly, @DavidLat aka #CoronaBoy:

I'll use this acronym (partly because I could really use some Percocet right now for rib-cage pain from my cough): PERCOS.

"P" stands for "Positive." It's a cliche, but true: much of life comes down to your attitude. You can be positive (or at least stoic), or you can complain constantly. What's better?

As the #CoronavirusOutbreak continues to spread, more and more people will experience symptoms and wonder: do I have #COVID19? Once again, I’ll share my experience. #LatsCovid19Journal #coronavirus
Big caveat: #coronavirus manifests itself in very different ways. Some folks get very sick, like me, and require hospitalization; some have something akin to a low-level flu (my husband Z.); some are asymptomatic. So, #YMMV. #LatsCovid19Journal
On the evening of Saturday, 3/7, Z. and I went out to dinner with friends. After dinner, we were going to have a round of drinks - but I suddenly felt unwell, so I excused myself and went home. #LatsCovid19Journal #coronavirus

Folks, this #CoronavirusOutbreak is no joke. I’ll give you occasional updates, tweeting from “Above the Hospital Bed,” about how serious #COVID19 aka #coronavirus can be. Think of this as #LatsCovid19Journal, my thoughts on #LivingWithCovid. [Thread]
A bit about me: I’m a generally healthy, 44-year-old male, 153 lbs. (surely less now), 5’7”, no drugs , rarely drink, no health conditions other than exercise-induced asthma, which I manage with an inhaler. #COVID19 #coronavirus #LatsCovid19Journal
I completed the NYC Marathon twice - not the greatest times, but I did - and even now that I can’t run much (knees post-40), each week I still walk 25 miles and go to at least 3 high-intensity interval training classes at the gym. #LatsCovid19Journal #COVID19
