Excited for this talk from @lisa_van_gelder #LeadDevAustin on debugging teams! The first question is always the team is slow, “how can we instill a sense of urgency in the team?”

Spoiler: it’s probably not the engineers.
First example at sprint planning. Scrum master wanted to “hold engineers accountable” for getting stuff done. Each developer had to sign up for individual stories, at the end of it justify to whole team and their manager.

The engineers hated it.

Engineers had started padding their estimates and hiding on the last day of the sprint in order to avoid being assigned work they wouldn’t complete.

The process to hold people accountable was destroying velocity (and morale).
