"To upgrade oneself, the object to work on is our brain. The process may include unlearning to learn and learning to unlearn. Whichever is the case the #brain can never be over exploited.

In every ideal #society, learning is required for universal relevance and/
acceptance. Anyone who cease to learn cease to grow and signed in for demotion or #stagnancy.

Engaged in a discussion with one of my sons this morning, I made him realized there are ways we learn without alerting our #teacher in quote, so learning may be cheap atimes./

#CoachingNuggets🧵from reading 3 more chapters of James Flaherty's 🔥book on Coaching:

1. It's easy for a coach to slip into more familiar roles (for me that is #mentor & #educator)-resist that pull.

2. Coaching is "mutual"-it goes both ways (trust, respect & free expression).
3. Trust is a gift that we can give to people. We can make up our mind and do it. It is not something compelled or "earned".

4. A #coach must bring 3 things: openness (no withholding, no judging), listening (beyond auditory) and absolute confidentiality.

5. Practical tips for better coaching relationships:

a) Say what you will do, do it, point out you did it, repeat
b) Share you thinking process and analysis openly
c) Change in response to feedback and speak truth to power

Biden will find again the thing that makes turnarounds difficult is that the situation is always worse than is publicly known. Denial, cover-ups, withholding of information, and finger-pointing rather than accountability.
In #leadershiptransition, finding the data & putting facts on the table for all to confront, ends closed cronyism and invites more people to the discussion of what can be done. This provides the foundation for a more unified approach. #leadershipdevelopment

Not enough focus on good followers in the game of #Leadership.
Good followership entails: deliberate observation of and reflection upon Leader X, Y, or Z’s leadership effectiveness or lack of effectiveness.
Followers should seek to identify and evaluate: how leaders’ X / Y / Z actions, attitudes, decision making, belief in others, character traits, etc., affect those at the individual level, and affect those within a team framework. We could extend this into our communities.

The key to leadership is your ability to delegate, and it’s hard to do.
You need to give up your toys and hand them to others to do the work. It sounds like you’re giving away everything, but you have plenty of work every day. The leader’s job isn't doing the work but building a group of talented engineers who gets it done.

I have been studying the nature of criticism lately as criticism is a frequent source of anxiety for a leader....

1/
I think what I offer that is hopefully helpful and freeing for people, is I take a large sweeping concept and try to break it down into identifiable and manageable parts. So I have defined several aspects of 'anxiety' for example, so we can name the source and be free....

2/
Criticism is like that -a broad sweeping word that covers a lot of territory.

3 particularly insidious forms of criticism are: cumulative criticism, second hand criticism, 'same meeting, different experience' criticism.

I will attempt to clarify each in this thread.
